I’ve actually known a two teens who were legally emancipated and the parent had to be a complete mess for it to happen. In one case the parent along with the process recognizing it was in the teens best interest. When I say disaster I mean parents that couldn’t maintain a stable residence for a month, evictions, drug addictions, arrests, disappearing for days, etc… The kid was usually emancipated because they were working (while attending school) and just needed stability. The disaster parent usually moved in and out of various school districts and it made it difficult for the kid to go to school regularly. The teen usually had found a friend, or stable adult, that helped them in the process and usually offered stable housing. This is usually how emancipation, outside of child actors earning real income, happens.
