Fuck this is true one of my jobs pays me on the 14th of the month for last months work.

My other hustles see me get paid at the end of the month.

My strategy was to pay ahead by a month or two so I have a runway.

I drove past one of their rallies the other day. There were only a couple dozen of them and their median aged looked to be 65. They’re not doing much of anything.

No. Just let them have a soda. I'm not arguing to eat the rich or give them free rides to the Caribbean. I'm saying that the programs that each American pays into in the case that they fall destitute should allow for them to eat junk food because everybody paid into it. For every dozen lumpenproles on SNAP, you have at least a couple guys who found themselves laid off and want to get out of it ASAP and I don't want to deprive them of getting a treat that they paid into with the system. It's insulting to them to presume that because they got laid off without savings that they should be disciplined like children by people like you or me who don't use it. That's not our place to unilaterally decide.

You assume everyone is only dipping in when they fall on hard times, and that everyone pays into it. The truth is the majority who take never paid in, or take out way more then they ever paid in, and the ones paying in will never take. Further, the ones paying in are having to budget out things like getting a treat because the rising prices of everything but their own paychecks, while those who take get automatic increase and dont have to do without. Work or gruel. And you can pick up the litter on your way to the gruel line.

I can sympathize with your point. But I can also find five bucks on the sidewalk and buy a pack of chips. Government programs should not encourage habits or practices that hurt the citizens.
