soo i love cats a lot and because of that i happen to know a loooooot about them so here are some of my favorite cat facts
  1. siamese and other colorpointed cats have a partial form of albinism, this gene is temperature reactive which is why their bellies and chest are white while they have dark colored paws and faces
  2. calico and tortie cats are almost entirely female because the color pattern is tied to two x chromosomes
ill add in more eventually

Studies suggest a link between exposure to cats during childhood and an increased risk of schizophrenia-related disorders.
The hypothesis is that it may have something to do with the toxoplasmosis parasite, which is commonly spread to people via exposure to cat feces (and is why pregnant women aren't supposed to clean litter boxes).

Sadly most of the studies into toxoplasma and human behaviour are really shitty, obviously its difficult to actually design a robust study that wouldn't involve giving people a parasite in the hopes that they develop schizophrenia.

This study is fairly stupid and worthless but their introduction section is at least an interesting overview of the subject.

The main thing of note is a correlation between having toxoplasma and dying in a traffic accident i. e. they believe it increases your risk taking/lowers self preservation. As always this is just correlation and not demonstrated causation.

Based on my personal experience tortitude is real. It doesn't mean they are mean cats. But they definitely have some 'tude going on.

Black cats are usually overlooked in shelters and that's sad. But shelters usually won't adopt them out around Halloween because black magic freaks are a real thing.

The Manx (or Manks) breed have a mutation that shortens their tail.

The Pallas' Cat has the densest fur of any cat in the world. Their ears are short and round to help give them better camoflauge. They also have round pupils, unlike other small cats which have vertical slit shaped pupils.
