I need a refresher course on political correctness apparently. If Olly is Abigail, and Abigail is a woman, then isn't it problematic for him her to say 'faggot'?
It's the way the self designed oppression stack works. Gay men who become HSTS get to keep using "reclaimed" gay slang like faggot. Lesbians who become pooners get to keep using "reclaimed" lesbian slang like dyke. AGPs like Ollie get to use the grandfathered in gay slang because that's reclassified as slang that "all trans women use" due to the HSTS - but also get to use lesbian slang because they're transbians so they're true and honest lesbians. They also get to use the rest of the trans slang like "tranny" which pooners are banned from. There's also a semi-functional exception to cultural appropriation arguments about stuff like "serving" because that was used by black trans women, so it was trans women using it, so it's trans woman slang. And "serving cunt" or "serving fish" isn't misogynistic when they say it, because they're true and honest women so are allowed to use it about themselves and if you question it then you're implying they're not true and honest women.
The only thing they don't get a free pass on is racial slurs.

I'd very much like to buy this person a drink.

This one is news to me! Why aren't the lil doods allowed to use the hard T?
Not a universal rule, but absolutely has been a conversation I've personally witnessed play out multiple times. Apparently "tranny is only used to target transfeminine people, so transmascs shouldn't use it as it isn't their slur to reclaim". I'd note that drag queens were often referred to as trannies, but they're not supposed to use it either as "it's being misapplied since it only refers to transfeminine people, so it's like an effeminate straight man trying to reclaim faggot, just because someone calls you that doesn't mean it's yours to reclaim".

This system of who gets to use what words seems even more complicated than something notoriously complex like the historical Chinese bureaucracy. Just say whatever you want and stop caring when other people have a shitfit about it.

It's a worn out meme at this point but it all feels very 1984: everyone constantly walking on eggshells terrified that what they say might be taken out of context, or that the rules have changed since yesterday and now what was okay to say before will ruin your life if you say it now.

I cannot begin to imagine how exhausting it must be to live like that.

Saar, why do you need this, saar?!
Federal Indian Law refers to laws governing native American reservations. Looks like he’s doing a lot on giving land back to the natives or something or he is going to play both sides- here’s why we should but then what would happen? All these crazy things might happen so maybe it’s *not* a good idea? I am so edgy. Or maybe he’ll do a thing like separate governance sounds good is actually bad because it’s not equal or something ?

Looking forward to this takedown of American colonialism by a fucking English person.

It's a meme, but that's only because we've peaked with it. Nothing else can come close or say it any better.

I wonder if we'll get a "the ..... tribe recognized 3rd gendered people".

So there's a lot about western grid based city design, there's some more generic stuff about native americans, but he has decided to completely neglect actually reading anything about the settlements that native americans built. Cahokia was built on a grid, if you go further south the mesoamericans had some very impressive grid-based cities like Tenochtitlan and there's all sorts of religious mathematics that the Olmecs used to design their cities.

I personally think that if you are doing a video about grid based cities in America and want to do an indigenous angle on it and you don't mention Cahokia that you are doing something wrong. My personal biases of what interests me are definitely colouring this, but if you can read multiple letters of Thomas Jefferson's personal correspondance you can read one book specifically about pre-colonial native american urbanism for your urbanism and native americans video.

He comes up with a message he wants to (limpidly) communicate and then cites sources that will back him up. Doing more general reading and then making a video about his newly formed conclusions from that research isn't Ollie's MO. I also don't doubt for a second he's making a show of citing so many primary sources specifically because of the criticisms he faced about not actually reading Nietzsche when talking about Nietzsche.

Oh yeah, that's been intentional for quite a few years now. It's to always keep you on the back foot, discombobulated, in the wrong. Just Orwellian hijacking of languege, which they will change again tomorrow.

Seattle Voice Labs posted this to highlight that Oliver endorsed them. I’m just sharing cause I forgot about this little skit and it’s so cringe. I guess he discarded Cool Girl Abigail rather quickly in favor of his current LARP of ~Lou Ferrigno~ Linda Hamilton-action star. And he started out with BBC posh lady. He goes through his incarnations pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure I said at the time that SVL must be livid being associated with Olly but I guess not. I suppose it is their business turning mopey gay men into cackling harpies so Olly is probably a great success by that metric.

Found a funny comment (1 of 2) on the short btw
