Is there any nuance in this being "proof of US citizenship" rather than "Voter ID"? Because the latter has always seemed sensible and easy to provide to me. I don't know what you would need to prove citizenship but it sounds like a much higher bar.
It might be a training accident. But "training accident" is also what typically gets communicated back to families when a soldier was sent on something they need to keep underwraps. I'd give 50/50 on them having been up to something over the border in Ukraine.

No matter how many times it happens, hearing this makes me stop in my tracks. I was completely fuming earlier today about some stuff, but checking in on the thread today, seeing this, and finding out it's all true made my just sink into my seat. Even knowing he was an older fella doesn't make it feel like any less of a gut punch.
He just told us last week that Chuck Schumer keeps his hands in his pockets a lot when he speaks on the Senate floor because he's sensitive about his small hands. I'm not saying Schumer was involved here, just that the timing can't be ignored.
