Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

My highlights:
  • I kinda hate Shadow Labyrinth (the Pac-Man thing). The game itself is probably fun, I just… don’t like that it exists in general for some reason.
  • I thought they would wait until the Switch 2 presentation for Metroid, it looks good. I didn’t play the previous games, but I’ll get around to the first eventually.
  • TWO PLAYSTATION IPS REVIVED ON NINTENDO :story: :story: :story: GET FUCKED SONYGGERS
  • I really wasn’t expecting Legends Z-A, I thought it was too soon after the Pokemon Direct. Still, I’ll probably get it.
  • Rhythm Heaven Groove might be good, and Tsunku is involved, but I really don’t trust Intelligent Systems’ track record as of late :cryblood:. And I don’t want to be one of those “A HECKIN BROWN PERSON” people, but the trailer already looks more diverse than past games.
  • The Virtual Game Card system is neat. More convoluted than Steam’s family sharing, but I get it, it’s something.
  • I’m happy for Tomodachi Life fans. Not happy for the framerates they’re about to experience if the trailer is any indication.
  • NO DELTARUNE REEEEEEEE It’s still too early, and though I think Toby would definitely be willing to shadow-drop it, he wouldn’t do so during someone else’s presentation.
  • I really, really, really thought we would get something Kirby-related, and I’m honestly shocked we didn’t.
  • EDIT because I forgot something: News delivered Directly™️ to you… through a proprietary smartphone app that requires a Nintendo Network account to access… instead of just using a website/Twitter like literally everyone else… yeah, that sounds like something Nintendo would do.
Overall, a very “whatever” direct for me. Some interesting fan-favorite stuff was shown off, just not anything that gets me excited.
double post edit: I really hope the Virtual Game Card is NOT how BC works on Switch 2
I really don’t think that’s how it’ll work, don’t worry.

I might just be too old but I didn't understand the convoluted virtual game card shit at all, no matter how simply they tried to explain it. Is it just some Steam Family like thing?
I also saw some legal text at the bottom about it requiring internet to use the virtual game cards.

I was meh on it and was kind of laughing at the Pac-man thing...till they went full pac-man including the sound effects, that made me legit smile.

It's stupid but them leaning into the meme and then turning it up to 11 by having a Giant Evil Pacman Demon eating corpses of enemies made me at least respect the idea.

You need an internet connection to lend/receive a game, but not to actually play it. Which, no shit, how else are they going to keep track of what games are lent out.

It strikes me as one of those things like “what if [children’s IP] but with HYPER-REALISTIC BLOOD AND SWEARS???” Something that you wouldn’t bat an eye at if it were a fan project, but seems kinda dumb coming from something official.

I guess they figured itll run on the Switch 1 just fine and Switch 2 is Backwards compatible anyways, regardless Nintendo just continues to just kinda survive in an industry where Consoles have fallen and in that regard I can admire them for not molesting their brand in the way Sony has

As for surprise omissions, maybe I'm the dummy but this honestly was the time to release Silksong. Like, no meme, I figured it would get a release date here. Otherwise, a bit light on first part stuff, I suppose? I listened to it in the car while driving to work and thus didn't see which Metroid game they were talking about. From the description alone I had thought they were surprising us with a Dread follow-up. Legitimately disappointed that its "just" 4 instead of a second game.

So the internet connection is used to log who has access to the game (and probably encrypt the game for the new console) but actually playing the game doesn't need you to be online, am I understanding it correctly?

Sounds like the internet is only needed for when the two consoles aren't directly in contact with each other.

The only real things I'm expecting are Kirby Robobot and the Zelda ports. Anything else would be a bonus.
Well fuck me, I guess! Still, it was a decent presentation that managed to actually feature some surprises. Great to see Tomadachi Life and Rhythm Heaven back.

EDIT:
Boxart for Prime 4's been revealed.

I am not sure this is actually "Pac Man" it just happened to look like him so they leaned into the gag a bit.

If you buy something digitaly you can share it with yourself - meaning you can switch the consoles you play on easier - or let someone else borrow for 2 weeks.

They basically made Switch Library Book

But Nintendo so explained terribly.

I don't remember the name but the game with the old man and his cane reminded me of Duck Tales. So that's my highlight.

The MP4 trailer was boring, anything else that looked good was a port. Sorry not interested in Tomodachi Collection, and while I enjoyed the PSP Hot Shots Golf I wouldn't play another.

My understanding is that it works like this:
  • You, the lender, connect with a local Switch to permanently authenticate them as being connected (a one-time thing to prevent people from turning any Discord server into a massive game-lending library).
  • You can lend a game to someone so they can play it without owning it; obviously both users need an internet connection to perform the lend, but not to actually play it.
  • You can lend to any number of people at a time, but only one game per person.
  • You can lend the same game to the same person over and over, but a single lend lasts up to two weeks; at that point, the game is automatically de-authenticated on the friend’s system (even if they don’t have Internet, similar to how the NSO games handle offline connections where you can go seven days without re-connecting) and re-authenticated on yours (you probably need Internet?).
  • You can take your game back early if both of you have an Internet connection.
