The challenge is if the incremental cost of producing in the US is higher than the tariff rate, they won't do it. Foreign governments may also subsidize their increased costs through retaliatory tariffs on US exports so that the impact of the tariff is neutralized. There are a lot of risks with this approach as it backfired badly when the US used to do this up until the 1970s.

You also have the problem that domestic automakers can now raise prices themselves and generate free profit. There's no incentive not to.
This is correct. I'm in favor of tariffs as a pressure tactic for getting countries like Mexico to do more about drug cartels (as an example), but it doesn't work out economically in the long-term or with a country that goes "yeah well fuck you, too."

EU countries are encouraged to comply because there's a huge market in the US for their advanced products. China won't buy AstraZeneca's new drugs when they can buy Aurobindo's version made in India. China won't buy the EU's lithium ion batteries because they have a giant domestic industry for it. However, if ze Germans are willing to dig in and wait for Trump to leave, tariffs are a problem.

Trump is fucked if the economy slumps.

Why should Americans have to live like bugmen?

Affordable housing in Middleton Ohio. Just $216,000.

You think boomers are going to help you get pussy? Or help you watch your kids? For free? They're either: on drugs, working at walmart, or so rich they're on a cruse half the year. Not to mention how are you supposed to find a woman when you're working 70 hours a week.
I misunderstood I thought you were referring to Japanese automotive factories in Japan. There it's par for the course but yeah in America that would suck hairy transgender donkey balls.

this is the single busiest thread on the site, but the chat we had for politisperging was never used. why is that?
Cause chats are gay and for niggers with no attention span, and forum threads are superior in every way. Specially if you are retarded and take a while to collect your thoughts, and write them out.

Chat is dominated by users who tend to only use chat and post on people's profiles. It's cursed. People in Chat spend more time mocking people for their forum post count then having meaningful discussion.

Back in the day there was this network called a "contact chain" or "accountability chain," which was basically a failsafe for organizing members of government agencies and private companies working with the government. It was stupid simple, you were given a person to contact. It was your job to, in the event of a national emergency, to contact your designated person and relay pertinent information to them. You would be required to contact them at all costs, even if it means physically driving or walking to their home and banging on the door. That person would then contact the next person in the chain, so on and so forth, until the entire organization was informed of the nature of the emergency and the action plan.
The private sector had something similar in adopting a disaster plan where the worker discovering the situation would notify an immediate supervisor and the news would then be communicated up the ladder person by person until all the administrative staff were made aware and they would then discuss and address the situation as appropriate.

What is the equivalent today? We're divesting ourselves of landlines, physical media, and deep storage. We're making ourselves more vulnerable to a failure cascade in the event of a real shooting war, or even limited first strike.
Too many people are so entrenched and all-in on digital technology that they have: (1) no concept to do when that technology fails or goes obsolete, and (2) no knowledge or ability to perform the manual operations/activities.

The UAW head praising Trump after calling him a scab wasn't on my bingo card.
Fain probably still thinks Trump is an undesirable Republican asshole. Still, the fact he praised Trump's tariffs as a good thin was definitely unexpected when Fain made it clear he'd rather an hero than say anything nice about Trump before during and after the UAW contract negotiations.

I have first hand experience. Those Japanese auto manufacturers do in fact treat their workers like shit. Mandatory 70 hour work weeks at $17.
That isn't legal. FLSA - which applies - requires 1.5x for non-salaried/exempt workers for OT (over 40 worked hours). Was $17 the blended rate of regular and OT? Or how did they get around Federal law doing that on such a broad and overt scale?

I recall the chat being useful for Deagle Nation livestreams but there's rarely a "this is the only thing and it's live" like that for politics
When I was watching some old Wuxia tv shows, I thought the characters that were servants of a dead dyansty and trying to bring it back was a fantasy. Oh no it's not, talking to my boomer parents feels like that.
now I want flying sword but boomers on scooters

Trump should scrap Obama's emission standards and With Chrysler laying people off. And with Profits down 48% in 2024 Elon or somebody should buy Chrysler and make the best affordable hybrid sedan. Made in America with all American parts.

@Friend of Dorothy Parker
You got overtime. You'd generally pull about $800-1000 a week. But you had to work 6 12s most weeks or they'd fire you. Every factory operates that way now in the rust belt. The Japanese factories are generally cleaner than the American ones. I have worked jobs where you had to sign a contract waving your right to overtime, just not in factories.

NPR is “trying” to be less biased, but still constantly only has segments that are so cringe inducing it’s almost impossible to believe.

Just a day or so ago, was listening in my car about some crab-person celebrity faggot talking about how he was defeating racism by playing some role in a TV show about the BIPOC struggle.

It’s kind of the problem with the left, really. All their idols and icons are so obnoxious and retarded, it’s simply amazing. Hasan piker, troons and loud corrupt she-boons that make more money then 99% of America. It’s comical that leftists think this should be the mouthpiece and hero’s to get votes for them.
if you want to fix NPR, the best way is to try and outsource local stations to be the bulk of the radio network. While doing that, reinstitute a version of the fairness doctrine, so that both left and right wing views are shared equally on the network neutrally.

Oy-vey

It's really easy to tell which side the jurnoslime is on.

If they say US-Aid they part of the left shill machine

If they say USA-ID they're on the Trump train.

It's not hard to notice. Every Lefty shill without exception will always say US aid because that makes it sound good and helpful and nice and not at all like the propaganda machine it really is. its almost like they're all paid by the same organization or something.

The problem is that you can't compete with countries that can produce the same product at a cheaper price. Everyone wants to buy American until they see the sticker price. It's not a $5,000 difference you recoup in lower maintenance costs due to high quality, it's paying twice as much for basically the same thing. With cars, simpler is both better and cheaper.

The reason why cars are so fucking expensive now is all the electronics. Personally, I would buy a simple car with an AM radio and a tape deck. The rest of the country wants self-driving doohickeys and Bluetooth.

your not wrong. I drive a 2000's suv, and all I have to do if I want Bluetooth is to get a hook-in Bluetooth setup and I can use Spotify. then again, I do like my local talk radio station so I barely use it unless i'm in a car with friends

Good luck!

But I still have 500 cassettes that haven't seen daylight in 20 years*, so I'm all set for the coming carpocalypse.

*and about the same number of records, but not so good for car use :cringe:
