I believe in Europe, non-college "dormitories" actually exist. If I had to share a shower and toilet amongst strangers I would hope I'm incarcerated, at least there they don't expect you to pay rent.
The term used in the US was/is SRO. Single-room occupancy. Bedroom with shared kitchen/bathroom. Largely gone except for pockets in a few major cities. Usually weekly rentals.

New Jersey has several of these. They are okay when you are the only occupant, basically have a house to yourself. Once more people start moving in it becomes a nightmare
This is what urbanists want you to live in.
I have spoken to several architects/urbanists from Barcelona. It surprises me the level of shit they want to make people suffer. These are people with authority because they went to college for seven years. You need to burn their diplomas before it is too late

You don't need a car because you can carry one bag of soil OR two bags of grocery with your bike.

I like to play "where in the world" with these Reddit users but also what kind of weirdo they have to be to use bicycles this way. The grocery bags from ACME suggested most likely somewhere in the Philadelphia area. Sure enough, this Lowe's shot with a bridge in the background is in Philly and the front is exactly the same. And here's the ACME he shops at. Since he goes to the Lowe's and IKEA at Columbus Commons and not the ACME there, he would most likely live in the area circled.

So his Reddit stuff is mostly just urbanist/Reddit shit...except I noticed this...assuming he got it when he was a teenager (let's say 14, young enough to get things from your mother like this but old enough that you wouldn't grow much more), that would make this guy at least fifty years old and far too old to be playing Eternal College Student.

So with that in mind, it's always good to keep close ties with your parents but I think this senior citizen is his roommate. The question is who's taking care of who? I'm guessing that since the bicycle seems only for running errands (and for all I know, the car was X'd for DUI reasons) and not for commuting to a job, the checks coming in are in his dad's name.

"Single for 20+ years" is never something you want to admit publicly. Also I'm guessing that as this is a year ago it didn't work out. (Turns out a 50-something year old man with no job, no car, and lives with his widowed father isn't exactly a prime catch).

He alleges to work at an office but that there's a few things fishy...that doesn't look like an office, it looks like a dining room table, and in a way that the dish couldn't have fit any others, meaning that if they were in a "huge bowl" they were moved onto a smaller plate. If he took them home, then why place them in a plate? This is the first time he's mentioned an "office" or work at all.

Of course he shared 19 pictures; methheads have a lot of energy.

On a serious note, though, nexttime I see a prime Oklahoma methhead peddling around town with everything-but-the-kitchen-sink tied to their bike, I just might take a pic and share it on r/fuckcars 🤣

How someone fucks up that hard at that age and still lives with their father baffles me. Unless he is taking care of an elderly relative, which I doubt as it's probably the other way around, it makes me question how someone wound up in that state.

I don't understand their obsession with wanting trucks to be as utilitarian and shitty as possible.
You don't understand why people want cheap utilitarian vehicles? Some people want functional things for 20k not bloated worthless trucks for 80k.
Whenever I see a comment like this I'm reminded of a quote by Brandon Herrera about people who think the SKS is better and didnt need to be replaced. "Yeah it's so much better you can tell this by the amount of countries who aren't using it".
Small trucks were legislated out of existence, not because of lack of demand. The rise of kei trucks shows that the demand still exists, it's just not being catered to. There's a reason many states are being lobied to have them banned.
Only fags complain about 6 foot beds, they're plenty big enough to fit things in. Even full sheets of plywood and full length boards. It won't kill you to angle them on the tailgate or drop the gate and tie them down. Quit being a little bitch.
Good luck doing that with a stack of sheet rock.
criminals do not give a shit of what color it is because it can be re-painted.
Most bike thefts are crimes of convenience, they aren't stolen to keep but because it's easier than walking and then they get dumped.

They used to be called efficiencies.

Idk, I've seen a lot of serial bike thieves whose sole purpose is apparently stealing every child's bike in the entire city and then having a massive fucking yard of bicycles for sale. Maybe it's less common but I feel like they make up for it in sheer numbers of bikes.

I remember going to Indiana years ago and tried to buy alcohol from a convenience store. They wouldn't let me buy the stupid thing "because it's a Sunday." Is that just some weird law enforced by a city or county, rather than the state? I couldn't believe the ridiculousness of it.
As a native Hoosier, I am obligated to note that the Blue Laws have been loosened for about 15 years now to allow alcohol sales from noon til 8 pm on Sundays. I won't pretend that it isn’t a headache to realize you can't buy liquor before the clock strikes 12:00, but I can understand wanting people not to start drinking while most folks are still at church.

No, I mean that's a rhetorical question I already know why urabnists specifically complain about this and it's not because they actually have some vested interest in the benefit of the blue collar worker. Their obsession with trucks is because they look for any talking point to say the driver is not a real man for driving anything with any luxuries at all. They have no interest in returning trucks to the good ole days, they would rather ban you from having a truck at all. Believe me once the F-150s are gone they will still complain about your small truck.

Small trucks were legislated out of existence, not because of lack of demand.
Yes, the legislation that was introduced around 2012 that told Chevy and Ford they can't make the S10 and Ranger anymore. Which Chevy happened to end in 2004 8 years before the last Ranger. It was so economically viable they stopped producing it.

There's a reason many states are being lobied to have them banned.
Which is why imported right hand drive small trucks like Hilux don't have the same issue? And not because it's a whole different vehicle type that was never introduced to North Amercia before and wasn't built to conform to our standards?

You are conflating multiple issues.
Believe me once the F-150s are gone they will still complain about your small truck.
They won't ever ban trucks because they are the primary vehicle in the USA due to their usage as general purpose work vehicles. Every landscaper or blue color worker has one for a reason.

It started with the Chicken Tax and escalated with CAFE standard regulations. They made them financially unviable to sell, not that people didn't want to buy them. There's a reason every single car and truck model has grown to twice the size of their 90s version.

They are over the 25 year mark which federal regulation says they are exempt from crash test, emission, etc regulation. The States argue that they don't meet federal standards so they can't be registered. People want them because they are old utility vehicles that are cheap and in relatively good condition for their price. No one wants them as a primary vehicle and their modern equivalent is a Side by Side. It's perfect for certain kinds of work with luxuries like A/C and the small size which makes them super manuverable.

The chicken tax has nothing to do with a lack of foreign trucks because foreign automakers can build factories in the US to get around the tax. Most automakers already build a lot of their American-market cars in the US and if there was demand for a truck, they could make one.

Toyota, for example, makes the Tacoma in the US, which is about the same size as the Hilux. Most of the size increase in modern vehicles is for safety reasons; this is obvious if you look at how thick a modern car door is.

You can buy a Ford Maverick today if you want a really small truck, but you lose a lot of capability going that small.

In the US, with cheap gas and ample space, there are practically no downsides to a larger vehicle.

Manufacturers have tried again and again over the years to build and sell the cars that “enthusiasts” claim to want only for them to struggle to sell.

Remember, if you buy used to save on depreciation, the automakers don’t care what you think.

Suppressing demand for certain niches because it overlaps with another is a common marketing method. The Subaru Brat is iconic for its bed mounted seats, which was a way to skirt the chicken tax.

I said that, the ever tightening CAFE standards incentivized trucks and SUVs which became more car like to cover the gap. Why pay 30k for a 1/2 ton truck when a 1 ton truck is 33k and larger and nicer?

You can't buy the 10k Toyota that is sold everywhere but the USA.
Manufacturers have tried again and again over the years to build and sell the cars that online “enthusiasts” claim to want only for them to struggle to sell.
Because they give enthusiasts half of what they want at more than they can afford. There's a reason every big sports car is always a smaller cheaper car with upgrade potential. Why buy a cheap car to upgrade it when you can just buy a Porsche or Corvette?
Remember, if you buy used to save on depreciation, the automakers don’t care what you think.
They don't care what you think at all only how it affects their sales figures. Which is why they suppress the used and foreign car markets so you'll be forced to buy into their increasingly limited selection.

This is a big one though. If you've seen the parking garages or tight streets there are in older cities (asia and europe especially) you'd wish you had a smaller truck. One thing kei trucks are exceptionally good at: going down old and narrow alleys that feel like they're one and a half meters wide.

It's not generic enough to be an office and they'd have a bigger bowl. Krackel is the best Hershey in those little bars, no wonder it's gone.

I used to have a run down bike at the cottage, which had a plastic crate ziptied to the rack, but that was mostly to pick up everyday groceries for 2-3 people or carry some beer bottles (secured with bungee cord). That shit he does with this bike is retarded and dangerous. The soil bag alone weighs almost 50 kilos and it's a wide load which makes the bike unstable. His entire vehicle is now as wide as 3 bikes, which makes it harder to overtake safely and he can tip over while riding very easily. That's very stupid, the soil goes into the station wagon.

In summer I used to ride my cross bike to school in a shady neighbourhood and it was never stolen. Lamps, accesories were stolen but the bike was not, because I had a massive Gerda Secure padlock on it (not easy to pick like pin tumbler or single-side cut key locks) and a chain that was designed to lock down a morocycle. Together it was around 3 kilos of scrap and if I swung it right I could probably have killed someone. Thieves always cut the shitty steel wire bike locks instead.

I'm all for riding bikes around the city, it's nice in summer and spring, but fall and winter sucks for it. If you think that a cargo bike can replace a car, you are either stupid or coping with being unable to drive.
