This game originally released about ten years ago on the Nintendo Wii U and had some mild controversy concerning “censorship.” Keep in mind that, in 2015, we were barely a year out from the “Five Guys” incident that led to Gamergate, so there was a feeding frenzy for free speech grifters to try to make something out of nothing, which led to any game being adjusted to be less sexually weird for an international release compared to it’s Japanese release to be decried as being “censored.” Xenoblade Chronicles X was one game back then that got wrapped up in this discourse because Nintendo of America did two things:

1. Get rid of the “boob slider” in the character creator, likely due to concerns of some players intentionally using it to create child-like characters
2. Add articles of clothing to revealing clothes that were an option for a 13 year-old character named Lin to wear

These two things led to a mini sperg-out on places like /v/ and the /gg/ threads on 8chan over those darn SJWs censoring Japan again. In reality, normal people didn’t care and enjoyed the game (all 15 Wii U owners).

Fast forward now to 2025 and the game’s remaster releases for the Switch. The catch? The two “censored” things from the international release are still censored and applies to every version of the game now. This frustrated elements of /v/ because now they can’t even emulate the Japanese version anymore to get their goon material… That is until a dedicated group of autistic pedophiles figured out how to mod the ROM of the game to allow for those outfits again.
