Pretty much. In the U.S., if he'd legitimately believed what he was saying was true but retracted it after finding out it wasn't, it would be really hard to get him on the actual malice standard. And even on Convict Island, if he'd lost, it probably wouldn't have been to the tune of this ridiculous outsized judgment.

Jobst committed libel by repeatedly saying that Mitchell was the sole cause of Apollolegends suicide. He was informed by friends/family of apollo that this wasn't the case. Jobst continued to spout this lie for years while remaining friends with people who played a part in his suicide and were happy for his death.

Jobst lied to his fans/viewers for years that the lawsuit was over claims of Mitchell cheating while collecting donations for his case. The judge and prosecutor didn't give a shit about the cheating claims, the entire court video is "Why did Jobst state that Mitchell caused a suicide?".

No one has questioned his scores from the 80's. The scores in question are the ones he submitted during and after The King of Kong documentary, all of the VHS tapes of the games he submitted were 100% done on emulators. Whether he used saved states or not doesn't really matter since he submitted them as evidence of scores achieved on original hardware and they clearly weren't recorded from original hardware.

At this point though, even if Billy's scores were legit, he wouldn't even be in the top twenty on the leaderboard since way more people actually play the game now instead of just a bunch of boomers.

Cheating at DK is whatever, but I think the, what 15 years, of frivolous lawsuits is enough to totally dumpster anyone's reputation? I also have to echo the sentiments of what damages in particular can be tied to this incident as opposed to his general reputation as a retarded goof-ball.
