Pretty much. In the U.S., if he'd legitimately believed what he was saying was true but retracted it after finding out it wasn't, it would be really hard to get him on the actual malice standard. And even on Convict Island, if he'd lost, it probably wouldn't have been to the tune of this ridiculous outsized judgment. Are you saying to me that basically this guy sabotaged himself with lies and keep going with the lawsuit anyway?
Jobst committed libel by repeatedly saying that Mitchell was the sole cause of Apollolegends suicide. He was informed by friends/family of apollo that this wasn't the case. Jobst continued to spout this lie for years while remaining friends with people who played a part in his suicide and were happy for his death. Can someone lay down how badly Karl fucked up the case? Because I couldn't imagine how he could've lost the case except for monumental incompetence.
No one has questioned his scores from the 80's. The scores in question are the ones he submitted during and after The King of Kong documentary, all of the VHS tapes of the games he submitted were 100% done on emulators. Whether he used saved states or not doesn't really matter since he submitted them as evidence of scores achieved on original hardware and they clearly weren't recorded from original hardware. There's 0 proof Billy used save states.
He doesn't need to: His records from the 80s were all live on OG PCBs and literally cheered on by hundreds of 12 year olds.
Now, we've got creepy 40 year-old faggots fantasizing about non-existent save state cheats and literally dedicating their lives to trying to prove their deranged fantasies of Billy Mitchell are actually reality and not deranged fantasies.
Karl deserved this humiliation and you deserve to lose the cash you gave to him and I deserve the lulz.
Cheating at DK is whatever, but I think the, what 15 years, of frivolous lawsuits is enough to totally dumpster anyone's reputation? I also have to echo the sentiments of what damages in particular can be tied to this incident as opposed to his general reputation as a retarded goof-ball.You're overestimating how much people care about a guy cheating at Donkey Kong and filing frivolous lawsuits. His reputation isn't good, but there's a lot of ways that it could be worse and being blamed for a suicide is one of them.
>cheatingAnd also, the first time I heard of all this drama is this review in 2007 by Roger Ebert
Yes this shit has been going on that long. It's a good movie too, because it just a challenge in the end with some aura of cheating, not this money grifting going on now.

Jobst lied to his fans/viewers for years that the lawsuit was over claims of Mitchell cheating while collecting donations for his case. The judge and prosecutor didn't give a shit about the cheating claims, the entire court video is "Why did Jobst state that Mitchell caused a suicide?".
Raising an ipad kid. As if I couldn't hate the albino faggot any more.Check out Billy's new Australian vacation home.
