Imo, the legal ruling and financial burden from it did play a role in Apollo Legend's suicide, even if he didn't say so himself. Stress increases both mental and physical pain, so it would be weird for it to not be a factor at all. But that is just my personal opinion. Jobst probably should have made it abundantly clear that he was stating an opinion, especially since he lives in a Cuckin'wealth Nation, though I don't remember exactly what he said. I remember reading an analysis of the trial saying that Jobst's lawyers could've been doing a better job arguing in his defense, particularly on the points about Apollo.

But also, Jobst is a cunt, and he personally had no business even invoking Apollo Legend's name in his shit. It was ludicrous just how many videos about Billy he was making, and how completely smug he was in each and every single one of them. Though I think Billy was owed nothing since he suffered no financial losses from Jobst talking shit, Jobst is really hard to root for as a person. You could really only root for him on a matter of principle. Whereas Billy is kinda fun to root for ironically, despite being vexatiously litigious scum.

The best way to look at this situation is from a detatched, purely observational perspective. Something to have fun with rather than invest any emotion into.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but is he? The only games that I ever see Billy care about are Pac-man and Donkey Kong.
Billy had top 10 scores in virtually every arcade classic in the early 80s. There are countless vintage interviews with countless people saying that he dominated everything - Pac Man, Centipede, Ms Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and even pinball. These records were often viewed live, on done in direct 1v1 competition, and undisputed.

He was rightly regarded as one of the greatest gamers of all time and, equally, a great ambassador for retro gaming, before that term even existed.

Then 'King of Kong' came out, suggesting he later played on emulators. This set the autistic troons on a jihad, they proved he had, in fact, played on emulators. And, because they're autistic retards and can't feel anything new, they just spiral into deranged repetition.

In 2010 it was: "Billy's evil because he fibbed about playing a game on an emulator"
In 2022 it was: "Billy is Orange Man Bad and we must kill him and his whole family. We can do it, Reddit!"

Realistically, what business opportunities would Billy lose if he decides to crush Jobst like an insect for slighting him?
Billy's recurring source of income has always been predicated on his ability to work with people. To do appearances at ComicCon or whatever video game bullshit is going on that year, signing autographs at those events, selling t-shirts and hawking his bullshit Tabasco sauce at those events.

If your job is reliant on working with others, if reputation is your currency, and you have established to those people that you are:
  1. ...notoriously hard to deal with.
  2. ...actually a fraud.
  3. ...somebody who will, at the drop of a dime, sue you and destroy your life with no remorse.
Those are very serious concerns that will likely lead to some dude saying "Let's just call John Romero and he can talk about Doom for 2 hours." He's not drawing big numbers and the risk is too high for some retarded shit to happen because often retarded shit happens with him. People talk in these industries, they will see this, this will be a serious concern. He can probably buy a lot of goodwill back by just not being a cunt about this and most people will overlook the fraud thing in a couple of years if it means putting some bums in some seats.

Ok, using DSP as an example, it's like playing SF2 Turbo PS1 version and insisting that it's the same thing as playing on arcade hardware.

MAME emulations vary in quality depending on the arcade system but they all have differences compared to the original hardware. The better emulation systems all use FPGA since those can be used to fully replicate the chips that were used. Some of them are almost to the point of being indistinguishable from original hardware. Like the Class of 81' Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga FPGA board that Namco put into arcade cabinets in the 2000's is considered to be identical to original hardware. Lots of arcade collectors even prefer using FPGA versions of games over original in some cases, mainly extremely temperamental games like Qix or Defender where the original board sets are prone to having issues. Plus they allow you to play multiple games in the same cabinet which is nice when the thing's the size of a refrigerator.
I like emulators and I like some old games. I honestly don't give a fuck about the original hardware or frame accurate bullshit. I wouldn't complain if I had an original cabinet or something but I'm not going to go out of my way for it.

As long as it runs acceptably then I don't care. And I especially don't care about some faggot getting a high score in a game that's fucking 40 years old. There's plenty of newer games around and there's much more to life than just sitting around trying to get a dopamine fix from epic 8 bit video game aesthetics.

And I get why people collect the shit and have a bit of fun playing older games and understand the passion to emulated things well but the epic high score in pong from 1941 is really fucking boring at this point. No one plays most of these old ass games anymore because they suck ass. Sure they're entertaining to play once in a while or at an arcade or bar but beyond that there's much more interesting stuff to be doing that sitting and playing the same fucking 40 year old game 300 times a day to get some stupid high score no one will ever care about (besides autists and speed runners)

Because we really needed a legal precedent that people can get others to kill themselves and suffer no legal repercussions while we have to deal with DDoS after DDoS after blacklist after blacklist while being accused of the same thing right?

I don't disagree with you, I just think this last bit is retarded. Think whatever you want about Jobst, I think he fucked up by not shutting the fuck up about it personally, but Billy Mitchell winning a lawsuit like this after making AL kill himself only sets the precedent to other people like him that they can indirectly kill people and get away with it. That isn't a good thing, and we shouldn't take it as "yeah but it doesn't affect me I am just gonna have fun with it".

Remember that newswoman who went "This kid should go out and touch grass" in UK national news about a 12 year old who achieved something nobody in the world had at the time, which is beat the kill screen at tetris?

That's how retarded you sound right now.

You didn't even read his death note you nigger. It was speedrunners who got him to do it.

Looking back at the Apollo Legend suicide thread. I can see how a True & Honest Farmer like me has not been sued by Billy “Big Dick” Mitchell.
Billy Mitchell is an American hero who achieved the impossible of a Perfect Score in Pac-Man. Keemstar confirmed that Billy was trying his best to keep Apollo's game going but Apollo was adamant on reaching the Kill Screen early.

I can’t claim a perfect batting average though.
Rackets (Nick Rekeita) is solid lawyer whose heart is in the right place, but I do think he overhypes lawsuits that are extremely hard to win.
:story: Regardless I had a more reasonable take than Karl who had no reason to claim Billy was responsible for Apollo Legend offing himself. I mean logically suing someone over FUCKING VIDEO GAME ACHIEVEMENTS IS probably not good for someone’s mental health. But who said Suicidal People have sensible heads on their shoulders?

SUFFA JOBST. You didn’t really didn’t deserve this level of fuckening imo but you should have just kept your mouth shut when someone sues you.

If someone kills themselves, that's still their personal decision.

Are you retarded? Jobst is still friends with the two people Apollo actually mentioned in his suicide note as being the cause of his suicide while Mitchell wasn't mentioned at all by AL
