MGTOW wasn't ever any kind of highly coherent ideology, it was only ever an umbrella for men arranging their lives in such a way as to place themselves and their personal life goals above women. Technically speaking, it is still an active movement, it's just that many of the things it espoused became such common knowledge that the label is no longer necessary. There are probably a lot of MGTOWs who were bitter about the kind of women that they would actually be able to get while dating, but that wasn't really a part of MGTOW specifically because the label was extremely broad.
Now, MGTOW-tubers and various other content creators, on the other hand, tended to have fairly consistent ideology if compared to each other at any given time, but they sort of drifted from antifeminism to anti-marriage male independence to PUA to entrepreneurship into straight grifting over the years that they were actually able to be active on sites like YouTube. Initially the early ones started out as Sargon of Akkad style "own the feminists" types but there is really only so many videos you can make about how fucking retarded a feminist like Anita Sarkeesian is before you need to produce some variety or substance. From there, many of them started preaching ideologies like stoicism and advocating for avoiding marriage while others branched off more sharply into the PUA sphere which was another entire thing that was going on at the same time somewhat independently (and, importantly, was somewhat opposed to MGTOW by definition because it involved investing a huge amount of time and energy into women, not that that stopped people from mixing the two). The latter tended to work better for making money and blowing up quickly, so more and more of them started to filter into that sort of ideology but as dating became more toxic it shifted again towards "here's how you make money", "stay away from women for your own safety", "buy my book", and "get shredded at the gym bro". Then every major social media site made a concerted effort to oust every MGTOW and the label dropped off considerably.
There are still some creators on YouTube today that I would consider to be MGTOW, but most of them aren't very big and they have largely been replaced by the more Andrew Tate-like characters of the nu-manosphere. It really did just get to a point where all of the young men who wanted to listen got the important parts of the message, like not getting married, not getting baby trapped, and maintaining as much independence from women and the government as possible, by the time they were like 13 or 14. Pretty much every zoomer male has at least a baseline exposure to these ideas. Thus, MGTOW in its original form has pretty much been incorporated into mainstream culture.
It's kind of weird explaining all of this, because in my mind it all basically happened yesterday, but in reality it's been more like 15 years.
I'll make weirder and try to timeline it. MGTOW went through many metamorphosis. That pre and post 2010 era was pretty coherent. Strict theorists and polemicists who wanted it to have nothing to do with politics or feminism since it would be prone to subversion (which happened). Some actually became monks eventually if you remember the "Zen & the spiritual foundations for MGTOW" dude. There was a nearly broad attempt to graft MGTOW with Buddhism and adding some spiritual layer to prevent religious zealotry from filling the vacuum caused by genuinely walking away from it all. You could have even called it a budding purity culture but had more practicality to it and came to offer levels.
Almost all were middle aged dudes who have been through it and concluding the juice isn't worth the squeeze. PUAs were still in the wild debating whether they should be listening to a dumb hats/nail polish/make up wearing wierdo or fawning over complete faggots and professional hasbarists like Neil Strauss.
The only near-peer in those days to MGTOW were MRAs. Pivotal to MGTOW ideology was utter contempt for MRA groups for having accomplished absolutely nothing legally in the 50 years they've existed for other than drawing massive ridicule to themselves and any discussion of men's experiences at the hands of the state on the behalf of women.
Old-old MGTOW collided with the new "red pill", which IMO was just PUA-light looking to shake the no-longer-working orthodoxy of crusty PUA seminar has-beens. Basically just millennials desperate to date and get married but realizing dating was getting harder and harder no matter they did + introduction of dating apps/social media noticeably "warping" (revealing) female nature.
Youtube shekelster MGTOW era was bad since the most views were just covering moments in 'muh feminism'. Old guard MGTOWs were screaming to stop making Youtube slop. Sargoy was particularly hated but he gots views and controversy next thing you know he's mixed in as a relevant figure. 2015-2016 election cycle hit and the Red pill lift/game bros turn to pro-Trump politics, tradcon-lite and Christianity. Even worse happened in MGTOW as not only Breitbart type right-wingers tried to make a new home and get electoral votes but also the non-political and left/center Red Pill wankers came running to get away from the newly right-winged Red Pill causing another schism and the older dudes to just walk away mostly.
New blood can't shut the fuck up about politics and feminism and if they ever got a taste of an astroturfed benzo-boomer neocon clown like Dr. Peterson's offerings and simpology the mind was basically gone. Nailed shut. Although eventually some noticed that man is a fucking fool and has no answers and stands for the system, so long as it just leaves him specifically alone. Just like when he was a "classic liberal" pro-feminism cosmopolitan U of T boomer. Now he's some sort of Florida man (lol) without the southern, American, Florida danger, or any other genuine article. Forget the ATF the dude could be get taken out by a piece of bread.
Anyway, the "growingly notable" MGTOW, rather than being apolitical as intended became re-imagined and painted by the ADL, SPLC, and media as extreme hate, misogynistic, anti-feminism pro-Trump movement making it bannable everywhere and part of the deplatform club just as the originals warned. That was the beginning of the end. Final ban wave hit during 2020-1 and was barely noticed amidst the pandemic.
How exactly everything turned into talking about working out 5x a week and being a fag obsessed with must-make-excess fortune hoping to operate a lifestyle trap and "get women" to pump and dump along with strategies with social media is beyond me. But it goes back to the start. Easily subverted as something with no clear leadership caste to issue edicts and excoriate people who don't get it and even proved that many of them actually can't and were never meant to be deprogrammed. For their own good they should have ideally been in a church and church community for their answers. Or a gym, or mixed-company, or MLM scam, or sissyhypno gooner sect, or a furry cult or whatever. It's just not for them they are just lost.
MGTOW at its peak notability made feminists and media the angriest of any group because even obnoxious PUAs and Red Pillers are still out trying to play the game and please women by offering iteratively better and better versions of themselves to them. The mere advocacy, however unsuccessful, of walking away is a critical threat to the state and women. But that idea too was watered down into "marriage strike" randomly advocating no more marriage until women "change". Which is not how life in this species works but nonetheless, women have lifted this like some rappper that can't write their own lyrics and augmented it into 4B. Just without a word of censure or demonization, and actual media encouragement because Rawr.
So, now the vacuum gets filled with over the top stuff like Andrew Tate. I believe all vested players and parts of society *absolutely* prefer Tate to tackling MGTOW as the amorphous and near incomprehensible blob it became. All sides needed a heel like Tate as some big boogeyman or "badass". All he does in his work is put on a lol gymbro show and spout some acknowledgment of "just how bad things are" which is stridently denied almost everywhere else especially in media. In his personal life he sounds inclined to honor women at their own level rather than try to elevate them. This is somehow the world's foremost danger and supervillain?
What comes after Tate, someone worse or maybe a pious bible version of him. The Tate Alphathug4lifes thing will eventually hold no purpose for people that need the simple script and theatrics rather than a realistic examination of conditions. I predict a toned down pretty-boy Chris Williamson simp type who makes simp-washing videos portraying women as rational actors and honest dealers of good-faith arguments since they emote and argue differently with his pretty, pretty face. But add-in some sort of twist.
IDK if zoomers have really internalized the components of MGTOW. It has certainly been thrust upon them by society and their female cohorts and is survival strategy. In the zoomer female eyes the males will never be good enough because they already out-earning, out-educating and out-employing them from the start. The ensuing behavior is pretty eye opening but if male zoomers were plucked out of the timeline and put back in the 60s, 80s, 90s etc everything I've ever heard them say tells me they'd be getting married in that setting. The contemporary situation and the trap is easily understood due to overwhelming statistics and information but the bare metal behind it all seems easily misunderstood. I think if society, women and the bait changed suddenly (war, plague, famine, depression etc.) they'd be walking right into the same old same old. Still men, still bio-engineered to do it.
