I will say, separate from any question of legal culpability, I don’t agree with the sentiment that suicide is never caused by anyone other than the suicider. It’s too easy to think of sympathetic counterexamples (like a young girl killing herself after her father molested her) or hypocrisies (everyone I know who has said this forgets they said it whenever there is a story of a young girl telling her simp to kill himself). It just feels like posturing to me, or something more calculated.

Speedrunning is one of the first internet cultures that got plagued with trannies in early 2010s. And for good reason, it's the biggest no lifer hobby out there and trooning out is the cope. And since troons are known to not admit why their fellow xisters or those associated with the hobby (Apollo) off themselves, they put the blame on anyone else they can. In this case, Billy Mitchell. Jobst being an ally and ran with the story to make money on clicks.

AGDQ was already filled with lolcows very start. 2013 AGDQ has so many very awkward memorable moments and you can tell lot of those guys weren't mentally there and/or miserable with themselves. It's like people watching a hotdog eating contest. Yeah its a spectacle that they can chug down those processed weiners, but not in anyway positive.

The entire situation reminds me of the tranny that set themselves on fire and blamed specific trannies for being homeless and their suicide, but then trannies blamed the Farms for it.

Why are speedrunners (trannies and faggots) so toxic?

Huh, I thought it was about DK cheating or whatever like everyone else. Didn't notch (minecraft) promise to bankroll Karl at some point? I might remember wrong, obviously not up to speed on any of this.

A couple pages back another poster stated Notch pulled out at some point, for a reason I can't fully recall.
 
Possibly the one time in modern history where a defamation lawsuit worked (lol Vickers and other sektur retards)

The thing about speedrunning is that it is really cool in principle finding out how to beat at game in the most efficient way possible is a cool idea and the amount of technical knowledge required is often really impressive but that is not what speed running is in reality, in reality speedrunning is a sweaty nerd replaying the same part of a game thousands upon thousands of time just so they can jerk themselves of to having shaved of a 0.1 of second of the last guys time and worst of all these degenerates don't even add anything to the runs they just follow a predetermined path discovered by their betters like a bunch of cargo cultists.

It's not really the records themselves that I found interesting about speedrunning, it's the glitch hunting and all the silly things people discover.

Since he didn't, I have to assume that either his lawyer is a retarded and failed to plead correctly, excluding critical evidence due to it (cannot use a defense you did not plead) or that the evidence Karl relied on did not exist in the first place.
If Karl did not have a reason to believe his statements to be factually accurate, then he did in fact deserve to lose this lawsuit and get assraped by that Judge.

If PerfectPacMan is anything to go by, and how Karl's lawyer royally fucked up his closing argument by getting the timelines mixed up, I'd say it was a lawyer fuck up. Not to mention it was already a prevailing opinion that the Apollo lawsuit, at best, didn't help things and that settlements usually result in somebody paying the other. Nobody had any reason to think Apollo didn't pay Billy a cent back then, and Karl's lawyer should have emphasized that.

I remember this one of the Super Metroid speedrun past 5 years, that top speedrunning claimed he clocked in over 10,000+ hours in the game alone.

If he believed it, this would generally be a defense under the actual malice standard in the U.S. A major problem (that Karl did in fact lie about and deliberately conceal) was that he was told by a relative of Apollo Legend that he was wrong. Apollo Legend's statement also contradicted his claim.

Once he knew these things, he'd have to claim he still had no doubts about the truth of the statement, basically a "me big dumb idiot" defense. It's generally very difficult to prove someone isn't a big dumb idiot if they claim to be in this context, but the fact he deliberately concealed having received such information can lead to an inference he knew it was indeed false.

However, here, Billy would have had to prove actual damages. A lot of the judge's reasoning seems to be just that Karl is so much of an asshole he needs to be punished. That's supposed to be on the punitive side (where it looks like he got $50K because that was what Billy asked for).

That said, even if he got a smaller compensatory damages award here (not even sure of that), the judge could easily raise the asshole tax and end up with the same result. He says he might appeal but maybe he should just take the L rather than making things worse. Or if his lawyers really were as bad as people are saying (no opinion here), maybe suing THEM would be the better option, although it looks like he really dug his own grave.
