It's honestly worth taking a minute to analyze what compels all these Reddit troons to have this legitimately homicidal hatred of Billy Mitchell, a total stranger.

Even if their myths about Billy "CHEATING!!!" were all 100% true (they're not, but let's play along)...their hatred still makes no sense at all.

Their hatred far exceeds that of the most self-righteous baseball "purist" finger-wagging at Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens for using steriods (a far greater offense than using an emulator). Their hatred far exceeds the hatred a college student has towards classmates who get busted for cheating, even when grading on a curve harms them. What I remember hearing was that, behind the scenes, the filmmakers were playing all sorts of mindgames to trick Billy and Steve Wiebe (an obviously mild-mannered guy) into hating each other and saying nasty things about each other. Neither fully took the bait, but the filmmakers were still able to foster enough bad blood to get some good shots and build drama.

I think I've watched every video Karl put out about this and I had never even heard of the Apollo suicide, I thought it was about the scores.

I don't think I knew about it being about the suicide claim until I had read one of the analyses by that one lawyer covering the case on his blog. Even then, I thought Apollo Legend had to pay Mitchell a bunch of $$ as part of his settlement, which would've made the "Mitchell made Apollo an-hero!" claim make sense, but apparently it turned out the settlement only involved taking down all of the Mitchell-related videos. Once Jobst got evidence from Apollo's brother that no money exchanged hands, that was when he should have backed the fuck off and issued a concrete retraction.

Hell, Moist Critikal's entire testimony (also covered on said blog) was based entirely around Mitchell's repuation as a cheater. I think Jobst's other witnesses, as well. I think Jobst's legal strategy was to confuse the courts about what the case was really about, rather than tackle why Jobst might have legitimately believed Mitchell caused Apollo Legend's suicide. Though I don't know if even that would've been sufficient enough of a legal defense.
