I've pointed out to many friends who are losing their shit today over the stock market that gold is $3150, has been consistently going up and that they all laughed at my investment decisions.
Same, but for my dad.

He now wants to buy futures, instead of physical metals.
My mother continues to believe that I am the greatest investing genius of all time after I finally convinced her to convert at least part of her retirement savings into physical gold late 2023 :story:

How does your mom know about crypto? Introduced by neighborhood housewives in some sort of Tupperware party?
What does she thinks about gold? Just a rock that is yellow and you can't eat it?
TLDR: package theft getting bad enough that coin dealers are considering stopping mail order.
Mail order? That's crazy, I'd never think about it. Hey everybody! I'm RICH! Small package but feels heavy, Mr. Postman? That's GOLD, baby!
Even criminals have appetite for gold. Man who stole gold bars from Tampa UPS driver caught trying to flee country: deputies
Especially the Asian one. California man sentenced after Montgomery Co. woman loses over $700K in gold bar scam
Wenhui Sun, 35, was sentenced Tuesday in Montgomery County Circuit Court for his part in the scam, which targeted a woman who lived in the “Leisure World” retirement community in Silver Spring in February and March of 2024.
“Freeman” told the woman to secure her assets by buying gold bars, which would be turned over to FBI agents for safekeeping at the U.S. Treasury Department.

The woman bought roughly $331,818 of gold and eventually turned over five 1-kilogram gold bars to a person she believed to be a courier for the government at a Silver Spring Walgreens location on March 5, 2024.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was later identified by authorities as Neel Patel, who was arrested last August while allegedly trying to flee the county. Patel is expected to be sentenced in May.

When I said end of day of course I meant by lunch :lossmanjack:

You can see from how the stock market is dumping that people are getting margin called. When people use leverage (debt) to buy stocks, the entity they owe the debt to can ask them to post collateral (put up some cold hard cash) when the value of their stocks goes down. This protects the lender from losing everything in stock crashes and basically caps their losses.

When there is a YUUUGE enough crash in stocks, it can pull the value of every asset (incl gold) down temporarily as debtors are forced to sell to put up collateral for their trashy stock loans.

Note that this only happens when people believe the stocks are gonna bounce straight back up. If things look bleak enough, debtors will just say fuck it take all my stocks and sell them lololol. And that’s when the shit truly hits the fan.
