It's funny, because if you look at Pearl's design, it's the most "pretty pink princess"-ass design ever.
The only reason they make her a man is because she's loud and assertive, which is ironically incredibly sexist when you think about it.

As always, these people reinforcing gender stereotypes harder than most conservatives.
Also its supposed to be a bit of juxtaposition. Pearl is short and "girly" but she's loud and assertive like you said. While Marina is tall and dresses with a lot of sex appeal yet she's pretty soft-spoken, polite and kinda shy.
