Nintendo Switch 2 - For the Soytendo consoomers to speculate about the successor to the Switch, recently announced for 2025.

I find it hilarious how some people are saying the Switch 2 will be “dead on arrival” because it is too expensive.

Yes, it IS expensive. The games are VERY expensive.

But, look at the PS5: $500 price at launch, VERY SMALL list of exclusives, $70 for all games (plus many games are stuffed to the brim with microtransactions). PS5 has already sold 70 million units, and that’s BEFORE Grand Theft Auto 6.

I totally expect the Switch 2 to sell big numbers, probably similar to PS5 numbers. It also has actual exclusives in the launch window, with new Mario Kart (a potential 50+ million seller) and new Donkey Kong.
The PS5 also serves as a 4k blu ray player however while being a "high performance" console. Switch 2 doesn't have that.

Why are people acting like the game key thing is for ALL games? It's basically the same as the "download code in box" thing that some third parties did for Switch 1.

What was Nintendo thinking? $80-90 dollars for objectively shittier ports on inferior hardware?

Not even Sony and Microsoft are this disgraceful with their pricing…
I wish I still had them on hand, but there are documents from the insomniac leak showing sony's ideal price for their 1st party walking simulator slop would be $150. No matter how much you hate sony, you do not hate them enough.
Surprised no one mentioned how the whole "game key" thing is pretty obviously a way to combat piracy
Because it clearly isn't. If that were the case, it would be all the 1st party titles using it, not the 3rd parties with spotty at best support of the switch 1. Don't get me wrong, this is indefensible garbage, but these blank cartridges with an activation key and download code are almost certainly a 3rd party stipulation that their support was contingent on.

And here I thought the selling point of a gaming console was the video games, especially the damn exclusives. Silly me.

The direct really felt like the PS3 announcement stream from back in the day where the prices overshadowed everything. It was a 10/10 contentwise for me solely due to Enter the Gungeon 2 being announced due to a relative and I spending the last 3 months running the original into the ground in coop. Nothing else to add that hasn't been said other than Air Riders better fucking have City Trial for when I get around to emulating it in 5 years.

This is where I'm at currently, the prices are impossible to ignore but everything else seems decent.

PS3 had no games AND was famously "FIE HUNNID NINEY NINE YOU ESS DORRAH!" With inflation, that would be equivalent to $950 today. I really hate the pricing, and so many other things they hid from the direct itself, but this really is not on a remotely similar scale or magnitude.

$100 games here we come.
Given how creatively bankrupt the industry is, it won't affect the non retards that don't feel the need buy annual releases or from now pozzed franchises.

I'd rather play from the PS1-PS3 gen anyway. I can count on one hand how many games gen 4 onward weren't dogshit.

All the other consoles are following suit with the price raises. Just think, it'll be as you said $100 a piece and this is coupled with fucking DLC that'll easily be twice that. And they put the game out unfinished and it needs to be patched day one. I feel fortunate to lived through the 90s with the advent of the PS1 and the best games ever made.

Today, everything is goyslop.

Amen brother. According to my Steam stats I haven't played any 2025 or 2024 releases and only one 2023 game (Baldur's Gate 3)

There are so many good older games out there you don't need to play modern AAA slop.

It's been very sparingly the newer shit I've played, and when I do, I'm buying it for massive discounts when it's been out for years. Fuck these developers getting full price.

A responsible adult would save money to buy something. Not put it on a CC and get charged interested. You fucking retard.
Okay hang on, hit the brakes and let's leave video game world for a moment. I think I need to teach you guys a little bit about how this credit card game works. And it is a game and yes, sadly you need to play it.
  1. First and foremost, you take tehpope's very good advice and save the money in advance to purchase what you want.
  2. After that, you put what ever item you wanted to purchase onto your credit card.
  3. Now here's the fun part: rather than wait until your statement comes in at the end of the term, you pay off the balance as soon as possible.
What this means is that you get the thing you wanted, you are not in debt because you've paid off the balance already because you were smart and saved ahead of time and then the best part is that because you've paid your balance off early, you will not get hit with interest because you have not maintained a balance that needs to be rolled over onto the next term period.

That's how you win the game and get the best of both worlds. Regardless of the Switch 2 stuff, just remember that you can do this very easily. Obviously make yourself very aware of the terms and conditions on the credit offer you've accepted; some may have funny stipulations about payments and interest. But for most of you, this is the best way you're going to get the things you want, stay out of debt and improve your credit score which you will need to get financing on really big, expensive things that romantic partners like such as vehicles, houses and destination vacations.

Most of us are never going to be rich people. But that doesn't mean that you have to live in squalor; and with a little bit of financial discipline you can make major headway by simply changing how you are purchasing items and at the end of the day you will still have all the stuff you wanted, plus some nice benefits.

Okay back to video games and Nintendo's expensive plastic toys.

PS3 did have games at launch though.

Resistance Fall of Man and Motorstorm as launch day exclusives might have seemed disappointing back then, but these days seems rather luxurious

In comparison Xbox 360 had Perfect Dark Zero as its sole exclusive at launch.

I stood in front of my mirror today and asked myself if metroid prime 4 was worth $600 after tax. I've never felt the monkeys paw curl harder than this.
Its coming out for the original switch. Its only $600 if you want "mouse control", 1080p120, and 4k60.

It doesn't. There are restrictions on the features that work. Just like when they removed the option to have a browser, that used to be included with the PS3 and PS4.

All current gen consoles are terrible in their own ways.
