People forget that incarceration simply isn't in the state's interest for non-violent drug offenses. It has to be available as a threat to coerce a behvioral change, but ultimately someone locked up is now jobless/not paying taxes, is now costing the state money to keep them locked up/fed/possibly on the hook for medical care, once they get out will have a more difficult time finding employment and becoming a taxpayer again (therefore will be more likely to consume government resources), and likely still has whatever underlying addictive tendencies that were there to begin with. Someone else footing the bill for rehab which might work is a far superior option assuming you can get the junkie to cooperate and even if they don't, the state still has its other tools to try.

His first couple days were still good, I think he was literally "High of life" (or was abusing prescriptions). But yeah after a couple of days he became such a drag, I think his withdraws were making him soda pressed.
