Gamers will have to wait a bit longer for one of the most anticipated consoles of 2025.

Nintendo just announced it is pausing the preorder of the Switch 2 in the US as it attempts to adjust to President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The company previously announced it would launch the pre-orders on April 9.

'Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,' the company said to The Verge.

'Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.'

The company says it will still offer the gaming system for $449.99.

In order to keep the consoles at the same price, the company will have to eat millions of dollars in previously unknown costs.

Switch consoles are mostly produced in Vietnam and China. Both countries were slapped with 'reciprocal' tariffs by the Trump administration.

All products produced in Vietnam must pay a 46 percent tariff rate while products from China have to pay an additional 34 percent.

The tariffs came in much higher than economists expected, sending the stock market into a tailspin on the uncertainty.

Nintendo revealed the redesigned console on Tuesday, the same day that President Trump held a massive press conference on the White House lawn to announce the higher-than-expected tariffs.

The tech company is joining a list of brands adjusting to the President's policy.

Problem spotted.

Make your own goods and you won't have this problem. The entire fucking world relying on China is the whole point of the tariffs. Companies can't be trusted to do the right thing and keep jobs domestic, so the bandaid must be ripped off.

Nintendo, a company that is synonymous with Japan, should be Japanese from R&D all the way to shipping.
Japan has tariffs, too, so that’s not actually the problem.

Just buy a steam deck if you really want a bing bing wahoo tablet. Not only are certain models cheaper than this thing, it can also emulate switch 1 games on it, and I’m sure switch 2 emulation wont be too far along. Not to mention 30+ years worth of pc games, and any other emulator your heart desires.

And the games wont be fucking $80

There's probably, I'm very sure, methods of just getting GOG games on there. DRM free which means no constant internet connection. And you own the games after the servers go down.

And the deck is also a general pc. So you can do other things with it.

I don't have a problem with countries doing some trade with China. And that's saying something, because I hate the CCP.

But everyone doing all their business with China is a big problem, as we saw during COVID.

I'm still not all on board with tariffs, but something has to change before Winnie the Pooh decides to bend us over a honey pot.
Which is why I might get a steam deck. Also I have too many games between steam and gog.
Seriously, this might be the time to upgrade my rig.
Hey, that's what I'm doing right now.
Play the European version. The localization is better.
