General Wrestling Discussion

Haven't watched in a while, are there any current promotions that are like the Attitude era?
GCW is like if the attitude era was gay.
AEW kinda works pretty well, i'd argue it's the successor to ECW (booker loves ecw style, plenty of people from ecw have shown up there) but they take a more modern twist on it.
WWE is just corpo as shit
TNA is WWE-Lite
NJPW is on a downwards slump

The fact that NWA doesn't even rate for a comment is dimes.

It's very telling how dodgy Kidd Bandit is that AEW hasn't booked him at all.

They always bite on the trendy IWC darlings but even they know that this spot monkey isn't worth the hassle and is bound for a massive controversy at some stage (i'm predicting pedo/grooming allegations).
Kidd Bandit is a lolcow, the fact that Tony doesn't want to book him says magnitudes about how pathetic this faggot has to be IRL because theyll pretty much take and overpay any manlet on the indies.

I would strongly doubt that, im sure he's lying because WWE wouldn't want to touch him with a 20 foot poll considering all the culture war autism going on in the United States right now, not even the fact that hes a troon but also the other controversies, ive said this before but theres a ton of WWE fans who are Rednecks and Black Guys, two groups who are tend to dislike Trans people, thats a PR disaster waiting to happen
And isn’t AEW the more LGBTBBQ+-+ friendly promotion? If even they thought he sucked then he has no chance in hell to get into a promotion like WWE who’s not too-recently departed CEO was friends with Trump.

They should have brought other stars to talk about Borga like The Quebeccers, Simon Dean, Scott Norton the wrestlers that had some altercation with him, Randy Couture, maybe extras from 1997's Titanic. He was cast in a minor role in Titanic but had to withdraw due to a film delay. Imagine if he was in Titanic, could that have given him leverage to be brought back to WWE at the time?

I wouldn't call them more "LGBT" friendly. more like "oh your gay? whatever, can you draw or wrestle?"
Nyla is trans, he became women's champ (not a bad run but it was early AEW, not top tier)
Sonny is.. fucking weird and ended up being a jobber
Anthony Bowens is about to be a star though, I think his new gimmick is going to be great.

I am late to this but just found out The Natural Disasters are going into the WWE HOF. Well deserved.

Tenta was an amazing worker. If you watched his matches in real time, it looked like he was legitimately hurting his opponents with the Earthquake Splash. However, if you watch it carefully, you can see his opponent will start to sit up as he lands, after which he then plants one of his legs to take the weight and his opponent lays down as he does that and he barely touches them. Then he puts his hand down on the mat and adjusts where he is on them so it looks more painful (but his arm and leg are taking all of his weight). He also would have his plant leg be the leg away from the hard cam, so you couldn't even see it unless they were showing it from the side.

Hell a good dude to take such steps to protect jobbers, too, while making it look good. Assholes like Yokozuna didn't do that for jobbers

Go 0.25 playback speed at 2:16 and you'll see what I mean. Incredible how he did that without making it noticeable.

By all accounts he was a super good dude, too, and hated being a heel because he was sad that children would see him at airports and such and run away crying. He wanted to be beloved by fans and according to Bret Hart, when he finally became a face, he broke down in happy tears back stage after.

Typhoon is also, by all accounts, just a super good dude in real life. They were very good friends off screen, too. They'd share hotel rooms and just play cards and tell jokes and stories instead of hitting bars and whatnot
Just a little tidbit to add about Tenta's legacy, before pro wrestling, he was in sumo, where he was known as Kototenzan and was very successful, most likely he would have made it far if he had stuck with it. He won every bout of his career there, and remains the rikishi (sumo wrestler) with the most wins without a single loss.

As much as I enjoy the work rate wrestling, that main event fell off a cliff. I'm now starting to get flashbacks of the tail-end of the NWO back in WCW, when every world title match was a dusty finish, and it's just becoming very hard to care about AEW's actual flagship title. 4 and a half hours for that ending isn't fun and enjoyable, especially when every other PPV ends in a nearly identical way.

- Don't care about Zero Hour. I read that Bowens came out for the Max Caster challenge... on the fucking PRE-SHOW.... Let's fucking flush that feud down the toilet then...
- Why have one Ospreay, when you can have a black Ospreay clone. The match was alright, but having a mirror match up needs to have something different in it.
- Big Bill is over. The Hurt Syndicate is also hot. A shame the tag division at the moment is cold as ice...
- Mone vs Hart was DIRE TO WATCH. They weren't clicking well in the ring, it felt like they were wrestling in slow motion in parts. The end was pretty good, I did enjoy the counter wrestling for submission holds. Hart is at the point of her young career where she needs a mentor to work alongside her. The ring work is passable, but it feels like she's now spinning her wheels. She has the character and the entrance, but unless she's with a paint-by-numbers wrestler, she can't kick in to the next gear.
- Rated FTR is over, FTR turned heel, the match was a match.
- Toni Storm is quite literally carrying the company at this stage. If TK could rub a couple of brain cells together, he should get her out on some publicity rounds. This match was actually enjoyable. Bayne played her role really well, and I will admit that I had my belief suspended for the match. The roll up victory was the perfect way to end the match.
- Now this was quite a surprise match. Fletcher's potential is limitless at this stage, he works on his promos a bit more, and you might have something to build around in the main event scene down the road.
- Chris Jericho decided to do his own tribute to Starrcade '97. Fucking disgraceful. This match should've been on the preshow...
- The most boring wrestler in the world, lost to Adam Cole. The Daniel Garcia experiement is over. What pisses me off greatly, is they started to tell the story of fragile Adams leg, worked well for 7 minutes, and then they both lost interest and we went in to speedrun mode........... So like, maybe just not sell the body part next time...
- Match of the night, Ricochet carries the match. Right person won, and a teaser with Okada and Omega running it back one last time.
- And here we are, the fucking event plummets down the cliff. Watching that table stop got a good laugh out of me, seeing Jon just shoot right up and no sell the whole bit. The Young Bucks come back and knee Swerve. I'm gonna be real, this wasn't shocking to me, because you almost expect a dusty finish at this stage. What a let down.

I'm not bothering with running down the media scrum tonight, as I can't be arsed, and I'm pretty sure no one gives a fuck about pre loaded questions in a safe space.

Honestly? I kinda liked the ending. Sure, Swerve should have won to finally start his "dynasty", but at the same time, Mox's dynasty is pretty much unstopable now.
I think it makes storyline sense, Bucks didn't want to lose control, so what do you do? you join em. this will lead to blood and guts or Anarchy in the arena. Bucks/Deathriders/Mox vs Swerve/Hangman/Opps
