Obviously its the guy's fault the other woman was upset, even though he made it clear he was sleeping with other women, and he was being exploitative and abusive by sleeping with her. He should have known she would not be OK with it (using psychic powers I guess?) and never should have hooked up with her. All these people are in their 30s and 40s by the way.

TL;DR even when a man makes it clear he only wants casual sex and gets prior consent for the arrangement, if the woman changes her mind after the fact its the man's fault and he was an abuser and manipulator all along.

To be fair, I've got plenty of examples of people I know with normal dating lives and healthy relationships but telling everyone about the half-dozen couples who met through a mutual hobby and are now in happy marriages isn't that funny.

Its much more amusing relating the stories about a handful of unhinged cat ladies who keep making terrible dating decisions and can't figure out that maybe they are the problem. I'm convinced this is why there are so many of these situationships and casual arrangement - this coping mechanism sets in and they pretend they aren't just a side piece and keep the fantasy of a real relationship going as long as possible. Out of sight out of mind. When faced with the reality of another person being in the picture and that "casual" does actually mean casual and they aren't exclusive they lose it.

I've had a few female friend go through the same cycle - agree to casual arrangement, things going OK, one day see them with another woman, jealousy sets in and things go to shit. And you always get the same rationalisations "I am totally fine with it and its a heckin valid lifestyle"...and yet you had a spastic fit at the thought of the dude being with another woman?
