Glad to hear her and your dog were alright, Fields Of Rye
It's in the video, near the end. It could be a pibble mix but it's definitely not full shitbull. It has actual legs and isn't built like a barrel, for one thing. I think it got overexcited and nipped the cop, who then used the excuse to fire at it FIVE TIMES as it ran away. Cop does the same thing later in the video; he has the son arrested for 'throwing a soda can' at him (no it didn't land), and when the other cops are kind of like, is that all? he says "it's enough". Same principle, just looking for reasons.
That's definitely a pitbull, in my opinion, but mixed with other shit. Absolutely not a Great Dane. The police were called because someone was on a car, cornered by this dog who feared an attack. The dog walked up to the cop and apparently bit him. While I think his behavior was poor when challenging the son after, the idea that you need a better "excuse" to shoot a dog than when it attacks you is silly.
It's an aggressive pitbull. Fighting dogs shouldn't be allowed in society in general, much less ones that get "overexcited" and attack people who are simply standing there. In a parallel universe, the dog doesn't get shot, but mauls some neighborhood kid the next week. Now you have that hick woman crying about how the dog had never done anything aggressive before.
I pulled the comments from that video and filtered for some choice keywords:
Big_Z14: "
Great Dane mix" lol okay, that's a pit.

Great Dane mix my butt. Maybe that
pitbull has some
Great Dane in her belly. Or they are tired of the worn out Lab mix title.

Great dane mix bit him 2x before shooting so I see why he was cleared of wrong doing. Sorry to that family who has to go get a new dog.

great Dane

That wasnt any
Great Dane, thats for sure. Tough take, they already had a call about the dogs menacing someone. Why take the chance? The owners had no control and the fact she even offered to let it out not knowing how to recall is irresponsible.

They have a beware of dog sign on the fence. The kid probably opened the gate hoping the dog would run out so he could go in and steal whatever he wanted to steal. Homeowners did everything right and the officer was in the wrong for antagonizing. I got the impression he was looking for an excuse to shoot the dog. He sure didn’t hesitate. The dog was already running away after he nipped the officer’s leg. He was clearly not a threat to the officers life at the time.
Great Danes are some of the sweetest dogs and this one was still a pup, so she was probably play biting. Officer was out of line in so many ways.

The one I feel bad for is the
Great Dane mix. She didn't know who the officer was or what was going on. Her owner also set her up for failure by offering to let her out after a stressful situation not long before this.

_Kittensworth: I doubt that dog is a
great dane mix. It looks more like a pit mix, if not 100%
pitbull.

I am a big big supporter of police. They are out there doing a hard job and get very very little thanks for the work that they do. But this time, the police officer was in the wrong. That dog was a young, juvenile puppy (dogs are considered to be puppies until they are 2 years old) and the stance she was in was a playful stance. She was trying
to play with him. He may have been bitten, but he was bitten by the dog on their property where the dog was supposed to be doing what she was supposed to be doing and he never gave the owners any chance to correct the dogs behavior. From first encounter to shooting the dog is less than 5 seconds long. That is unexceptable. They would have arrested me too if he had shot my dog like that too.

soooo a GOOD cop wouldnt have agreed to be proven wrong, because a loose and aggressive
pitbull endangers the public in general. He also wouldnt have instigated the situation before hearing both sides FROM THE JUMP

If it was a black family, the dog was a
Pitbull, and the officer was white. This would be completely different comment section.

My dog doesn't like uniforms or black people. And he bit a cop on his leg but the cop had touched my grandson on the shoulder. I just told the cop my dog was very protective and doesn't like uniforms or black people because he is never around them. I warned him that he wss protective of us and especially my 15yo grandson. The first thing I said wss, don't you dare shoot him! He should have already left anyway because I told him where the guy lived that he was looking for. My dog is an American
pitbull and he's definitely not mean or aggressive but if he hadn't touched my grandson he wouldn't have gotten bit. He asked me if he was friendly and I said not to strangers especially in a uniform. I said and honestly he doesn't like black people period because he never sees them especially at his home. It was the cops fault. He acted like I wss lying to him about this being the wrong address . So his cocky attitude didn't help anything. He left and went on up passed my house and found who he was looking for. He should've left when I told him the guy doesn't live here. But he had to get out of the car anyway. I'm glad he wasn't a total coward and shot him. The cop in this video was just an A-hole and she was stupid for telling him the dog was friendly. She just got after someone right before and was on high akert. Its as much her fault ss the cops. That was so cruel and avoidable. The poor dog paid the price for protecting his people. I wasn't expecting that to happen. I definitely could have done without that. She probably nipped just nipped him she definitely didn't tear into the cops leg and and refuse to let go. A sad situation for the poor doggie. Humans are stupid!

If your dog bites people , keep it on a fucking chain or indoors. People who own
pitbulls think they’re never wrong but those dogs are dangerous

You mentioned the dog's weight of 45-50 lbs... as if that indicates the damage that they can inflict.
Have you ever heard of a
pitbull? Even a Border Collie can F you up.
The dog bit the officer twice... unprovoked... the officer displayed no aggression.

Years ago my husband was arrested and it being just a couple of days before Christmas, it was cold. He got permission from the deputy to go inside to get his coat. As soon as the screen door slammed, the deputy ran for the house and reached for the door. My two American
Staffordshire Pit bull Terriers hit the door. The deputy reached for his weapon and I ( yes a dumb move) showed his weapon back in his hoster. The deputy screamed he was shared of dogs. I told him that this was their house and I knew that he was concerned about the possibility of my husband running. Let me go in first. My husband stepped into view of the deputy with his coat in hand thinking nothing about it. The deputy apologized but repeated his fear of dogs and I told him that I understood but he needed to understand too that to the dogs he was an intruder. It could have been real ugly quick with the way that I shoved his gun back in, but those were MY dogs and they were really stupid goofballs, but I too know that all dogs CAN bite.

Seems like the situation was already tense when the cop arrived. The dog DID CHASE A CHILD forcing the kid to jump on THEIR FUNKY TRUCK to seek SAFETY AND THEIR ANSWER TO HIM WAS TO RUN HIM OFF WITH A

. I think the officer was within his rights to defend himself. Let’s be honest it didn’t look like they were training that
PIT BULL to take simple commands. Unfortunate situation but that dog was going to be a menace to that neighborhood in those people care and custody and Kids deserve to walk in their neighborhood safely.
