It's actually understandable if you work for a US company and deal with Chinese suppliers. China in some ways is not at all a high-trust society like the West - the Chinese very much have a 'you get what you pay for' attitude. Their entire mentality in that quality is tied to price - if you pick the cheapest option, you're basically asking to get ripped off and people don't see it as bad or see you as a victim of fraud if you do get burned after cheaping out on something. Example: you buy a piece of jade that's half the normal price for the claimed quality level and then get outraged that it's just vaguely jade-like polished rock? Not going to get a whole lot of sympathy from the Chinese.
Combine this with US companies, who are overwhelmingly run by retards who get catapulted into their position by belonging to a certain class. This is a class which is completely insulated from reality, and just rub shoulders with the right people in leadership positions as they attend various prep schools and famous colleges. These 'business leaders' then give the people who buy supplies a mandate: lower costs as much as possible. Some even have rules like 'you cannot ever buy the second cheapest part'. Combine this with the Chinese mentality and what do you get? The absolute shittiest Chineseum parts imaginable being brought in by American companies, put into their products, and predictably failing and costing the company way more money in maintenance and repairs than buying decent parts would have in the long run. This cements an idea of Chinese quality that in reality only reflects the bottom tier.
Then look at China. Every company has CCP people on the board. You try this shit on a government project that the Party is pinning anything at all on? There's a lovely remote labor-camp getaway with your name on it. The Chinese will happily sell absolute shit to people who are dumb enough to buy it, especially a potential geopolitical rival. That means a huge slice of American companies, operating off of pants-on-head retarded C-suite directives.
As an aside, the idea that the Chinese are biologically or culturally incapable of quality manufacturing is also retarded because for the vast majority of their history they produced goods like silk, tea, and porcelain that were high-quality enough to be shipped all the way down the silk road or overseas to Europe. The lowering of transport costs just means that they can dick over the whole world now with low-quality goods, instead of ripping of each other off and sending the good stuff west so a river of silver flows into their empire.
