Update as I've figured out how to do it. Adding "?scd=<year>-01-01&ecd=<year>-12-31" to the end of the URL on a Pixiv search allows you to view every post that has been made within a specific year. There are 547,989 posts that have been tagged with "loli" and 298,638 images that have been tagged with "shota" as of writing.

There's a toggle on Pixiv which allows you to only view artwork that has been specifically tagged as pornographic. With this toggle on, 59.3% of the loli images are pornographic and 48.8% of the shota images are pornographic. There's a sexual component to all of these images regardless of how explicit they are, so I'm going to consider every tagged image in my statistics.

The number of loli images uploaded per year has grown continously for every year that the site has been up. From 2011 - 2018, the percent increase per year was between 8% and 20%. From 2019 to 2021, that figure was between 25% and 49%. In 2024, 85,096 loli images were uploaded to Pixiv (or 234 images per day), which is truly, truly horrifying. I've always thought that loli shit has had a consistent level of prevalence since the dawn of the Internet, though when you compare this data to the Danbooru submissions there's a very noticeable uptick in the general quantity of loli images starting from 2019. As of 2025, 26,545 loli images have been uploaded to Pixiv. At the current upload rate, there will be around 78,000 loli images by the end of the year.

I'm not sure of what is contributing to this growth on Pixiv, though there appears to be a growing international userbase on the site. I was originally going to accredit the dramatic increase from 2019 and onwards to AI, though Pixiv hides AI artwork by default and Danbooru does not allow it at all. I took a scroll through some of the images on Pixiv (God help me) and the majority of users are Japanese or those larping as Japanese. There's a large number of English-speaking users and a sizeable number of Chinese-speaking users as well. Of the few English-speaking users who set their real locations on their profiles, the majority were hispanic with a few being southeast-asian. The countries I saw included the United States, Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Brazil, the Phillipines and Indonesia

It's not exactly a perfect comparison to make given that Pixiv allows you to upload almost anything and Danbooru is heavily moderated, but compare the Pixiv datasets against the Danbooru datasets I posted earlier and you will see a clear trend in the growth of lolicon/shotacon art online. Whether this growth belongs to correlation or causation is ambiguous, but I'm inclined to believe that it's causation. With anime occupying a big part of the world stage in the late 2010s and onwards, many westerners and other groups of people began consuming anime porn alongside the shows they were watching. For some, this intensified into lolicon, which eventually proliferated on English-speaking anime porn websites. At around the same time, the non-Jap loliconsumers took themselves over to the Japanese hentai websites and began creating their own art, which explains the unfathomable, impossible number of lolicon images that are uploaded to Pixiv on a daily basis.




I don't know the exact age where it's common for people to start watching anime, but I imagine that it's very young. There are thousands of Roblox games that are anime themed and an overwhelming majority of the anime discussion on YouTube is centred around "shonen" anime, which is directed at boys between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. I admittedly haven't read enough of this thread to know the specifics, but I recall that many of the lolidefenders who have been doxed are in their young adult years. It's depressing to realise that these people have had their minds irreversibly altered by the Internet during their most formative years and that they are now beginning to enter the workforce

Touching grass and working outside of the home means cutting down on porn usage since there has to be priorities set (in that you only may have a couple hours to get off to something). It's very obvious that forcing people to stay at home makes them go stir crazy and look for release in places they never expected to before. Apparently hentai also climbed the ranks on PornHub around that time, though I have no idea how you can go from obviously-adult 2D bodies to loli content unless you were already privy to that.
