Be real, did you really want Alex B to win s3 after seeing him get tossed around by the ogre then tossing said ogre's salad, then dry humping her after the fact and defending her in the Penthouse like he was a dog? I sure as hell didn't, the quicker they got Alex B to sperg out and quit the better is the way I saw it, there was no mistake on anyone's part except Alex.
This is a really fun topic to talk about (and one I've written about in my autistic Fishtank book). Thank you for bringing it up.
The point is never about who wins, it's about content that continually be drawn out. It's hard to want any Fish to win because they're typically all terrible people. At best they're morally dubious. By getting someone to quit you're effectively eliminating all future content opportunities that originate from them.
This is only a good trade off if you're confident that a Fish's elimination or premature departure results in enough content to surpass the future content they would create by themselves or by their presence.
Take for example Mauro being bullied to the point of leaving Bloodgames. Mauro is nontent. He's likely not going to become a content machine spontaneously, therefore getting Alex Stein and Greg to harass him till he leaves is a good trade. The short term content gains of this action outweigh Mauro's useless presence.
The risk begins to outweigh the rewards as Fish become higher quality and more irreplaceable (although an argument can be made that remaining show time also matters to a small degree). Jimmy is a good example of this.
He's probably not in the GOAT Fish debate, but he was an extremely solid Fish. Also, post-Cole elimination Jimmy became largely irreplaceable since he was quite literally the only source of content that didn't require Production overreach. By Production pushing him to his limit they created amazing short term content (mallet incident and Jimmy meltdowns), but at the cost of his presence on the show. And as we all know, it resulted in one of the worst content droughts in the show's history as 90% of content at that point originated from him.
Alex is no different at his foundation. High-quality Fish, largely irreplaceable in the house dynamic, pushed to a breaking point, amazing short term content resulting from that breaking point, disastrous consequences for long term content as you just blew up your content reserves.
