Unpopular views about music

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Kpop fans have always been psychotic, the funny thing is the modern ones are tame compared to generation one fans who were actually violent. One of the poor members of Baby V.O.X got vinegar and soy sauce shot in her eye because of dating rumors.
I'm not saying they weren't, I was just explaining why I think Kpop got popular in the West and just comparing the fans.

Since we're on page 152, I'll go and say that Taking Back Sunday is one of the most underrated emo bands of the 2000s. I think they deserve way more praise than, say, Thursday. Thursday's good but I will never understand the hype about them.

I will never understand the hype around Clutch. They sound like dime a dozen barroom blues rock. How has the internet decided these guys are influential stoner rock musicians?

You kind of have to have gone on their journey through their career with them to get them. They started out in the grunge era as a non-grunge band with a fairly heavy, aggressive sound that was very unique and then pivoted to a more upbeat blues-rock sound.

Their songs are about the sort of weird sci-fi/mythology/conspiracy shit that i love so that helps as well. Also, Neil has a really unique vocal style that covers a huge range.

Cpop has so much potential for success, but a mixture of government censorship and it trying to copy the worst aspects of jpop and kpop doesn't help things. No wonder their talent leaves for Japan and Korea.

Agreed. One of the most underrated bands in general. One Eighty By Summer will always be one of my favorite songs of all time.

I really don't get how Chappell Roan is so popular, her music isn't anything special for a pop artist since Lady Gaga does the same thing already. She has the potential to be a lolcow in the future if she keeps being online and yelling at random people, though.

She's an industry plant. Gaga initially created her success from scratch with her creativity and sort of does her own thing now even if it isn't commercially successful whereas Roan is engineered as fuck and will disappear completely if people lose interest in her new stuff because the people pushing her will just move onto someone else.

The whole "female drag queen" bit with her is fucking lame as well. She's just an ugly broad that they make dress like a clown plastered in shit make up to score points with the LGBTBBQ+EX3ALPHA crowd with absolutely nothing solid to back it up.

Some ginger munter thinks men in dresses are the bees knees because making that statement is a zero risk proposition to her? Truly stunning and brave.

I think she's an industry plant for sure, her parents are very rich and her uncles even a state senator in Missouri. Look up her childhood home, that woman did not live in a trailer park like she claims.

I also don't think Chappell's a lesbian, it's all just a gimmick to her to milk people of their money. Most of her songs revolve around men and her worldview of lesbians seem to be from porn. I guess milking her lesbian drag persona worked out, but she's going to end up being a one hit wonder.

Oh my God, yes. I really wish they were remembered more than just "the band that feuded with Brand New and has a shitty singer". They are so much more than that.

MCR remastered Three Cheers and opinions are mixed so far, but positive for the most part. Have any of you given it a listen yet?
Some of the songs sound too clean for my taste and I think I’ll stick to the crunchy og version, but it’s cool that they did it, I guess.

My ears must be broken because I never had a problem with the original mix, and I've heard Rick Rubin's mixes. I don't mind the new mix, though.

"you can't listen to that musician, they raped/murdered/did something bad!" good thing i illegally downloaded all of their music, lol

but in all seriousness, i am beginning to suspect that the less morals someone has, the better music they make.
Someone in the literature thread pointed this out;
But theres good prose, good literature, good writing, good things within actual books that go beyond politics, start to go into just aesthetics independent of things, etc. I'll butcher it a bit here;

but you should seperate politics from art in a lot of sense.

I dont think you need to do that entirely- for example if someone is 'sunshine and rainbows, love everyone' and it turns out theyre molesting kids in their basement, clearly this is something which puts into question a lot about the authenticity of the experience theyre trying to convey

but so much music is genuinely good, aesthetic, amazing, and interesting, and goes beyond the people who make its worst proclivities. That part is understated.

Literally, like the OG is fine as is. I wish they had remastered Bullets instead, ause I do love the crunchiness of it, but it would’ve been interesting. Still, cool to be able to hear all the different sounds with more clarity

DAWs ruined electronic music. The best electronic music is made with trackers and lofi electoronics. These thousand dollar noise boxes and DAWs like fl studio produce shit, and the only people capable of using them to make good music have prior experience with trackers, lo-fi hardware, or physical instruments.

This is especially funny because Gaga was a plant too and when she was getting big in 2008-2010 she was known as the Millennial Madonna. She didn’t start getting respect until she started being in movies. Before that she was down and out from like 2013-2016. She made a big misstep with Born This Way which was a ham handed attempt to appeal to fags and faghags.

So yeah Lady Gaga was heavily astroturfed too. She pretty much tilled the soil for progressive-approved pop garbage. Prior to Gaga most pop thots kept their opinions to themselves.

Eh its fine enough, I've grown up listening to the originals though and that's what I'll be sticking with.
