Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I enjoyed DMC3 right up until I had to beat every boss in a row with no checkpoints or saves. Turned it off then and never turned it back on.

The game is also very ugly, I don't just mean texture work or anything like that, it just totally lacks color and has filters slapped all over it.

It's a common issue with any PS2 game that goes for a more realistic style. Since textures are limited to 16 colors, there's not a lot of depth to the palette.

I just finished DMC 3 for the first time and I have to be honest, I really didn't like it. The enemy design is not enjoyable whatsoever. There are the basic reaper guys who are mostly fun, maybe a bit too easy, to beat up. Then everything else is an annoying flying enemy, an enemy who does not get stunned at all or has to be fought a very specific way, obnoxious flying niggers who have to be shot a thousand times before they turn to stone OR have to have their wings broken off before you can hit them, the spider guys who just eat hits by the dozen, and the statues that are just obnoxious and not visually interesting at all to wail on.

The game is also very ugly, I don't just mean texture work or anything like that, it just totally lacks color and has filters slapped all over it. Environments themselves are kind of cool though.

Maybe the game becomes better if you use the style switcher mod. I don't know. But anyone saying this is the best game in the series is tripping hardcore.
A lot of the love DMC3 gets is based on when it released. At the time in 2005 no action game came close to it's depth and complexity and most actions games after iterated on its gameplay. Plus it was coming off of DMC2 which was a mess. I enjoy it quite a bit and the style switcher does help a lot along with being able to use all weapons/guns at once but it's not a perfect masterpiece that hasn't been topped. It's very hard to argue that action games that came after didn't improve on a lot of its shortcomings and just play better including the DMC games.

It's easy to say that in hindsight, but the N64 controller predates the original dualshock.
Yeah you gotta consider the time and context. Once 3D gaming was more established, Nintendo was able to refine their somewhat annoying N64 controller design into the genuinely horrible GameCube controller.

Sony Ponies missed the boat on Ninja Gaiden and had to measure everything against God of Bore

Old maze-like games were both annoying and endearing at the same time. Annoying when you get lost in them, but you feel a sense of accomplishment when you beat them. I remembered that when I plowed through the hexagon room maze puzzle in Dark Forces' Imperial City level. I heard horror stories of people getting stuck in it for months, yet I beat it in a single hour on my own, and I felt a sense of accomplishment in that.

That kind of game design is something you'll never see in the future because most modern game designers would be scared stiff of players whining about getting lost in a modern game. That, and most gamers nowadays can just look up a guide for free, whereas back then, guides for such games cost a pretty penny and weren't readily available before the internet took off. Nowadays, the most stringent puzzle can be beaten by some dork looking it up on Youtube or IGN.

I personally like Resident Evil 5 and 6 however obviously for the difrent reasons then the previous games.
I also really hate the opinion that "re5 and re6 are bad because they are action oriented" while re4 is considered by many to be the best game in a series despite already being basically a third person shooter with barely any puzzles and horror elements

You were supposed to draw out the maze on some paper, preferably graph paper if you could swing it.

This is true but only because DMC2 was so hated.

Resident Evil 6 is mostly disliked for the incredible amount of instant death QTEs and fucking up the canon so much the plot had to be rebooted not its action combat.

Also a six phase final boss battle in Leon and Helana's route that barely has any healing and is the most frustrating shit ever.

I agree to an extent but at the same time this is the first time I've heard that particular complaint as a "real reason" why people didn't like that one. Most complaints I heard back in a day were stuff like "you can now move while aiming which means it went full shooter mode instead of whatever was before"

plus keep in mind that re4 also had instant death QTEs

Resident Evil 6 also just kind of sucks to play in general. Ammunition is pitifully low for a game this action heavy, the enemy selection is pretty poor, the set pieces rob you of all control, the upgrade and treasure systems are gone, weapon selection is pitifully small.

The meme is that if you play it like a melee shooter it suddenly becomes a crazy action game like DMC but with more guns but the campaigns don't capitalize on this at all. The only thing people really enjoy is Mercenaries mode.

It also has the worst shotgun of any RE game. Re4 has probably the best feeling shotgun outside of Doom 2016 and sometimes in RE6 it takes three or more headshots to kill a basic zombie, it's pitifully weak.

Your guns in general feel shitty in RE6. The days of RE4 's very powerful and meaty feeling firearms are long gone by the time 6 rolls around and Leon's backflip kicks are a better alternative to dumping six rounds of .45 straight into a zombie's face.

Or just turn right at the entrance and keep following the right-hand wall.
Don't reccomend that for 7th guest. They deliberately designed that method to take hours regardless of which wall you hugged

There's also ways to design a maze to make them loop infinitely if you do it in the hl2dm coop puzzle map you'll run in circles forever

Ideally you're gonna want to have invisible teleporters and spinners everywhere, and trap doors, and pits that kill half your party

DMC is one of those things that I feel like I would've really enjoyed if I had it when I was 10. But I'm a good Christian boy so I stayed away from things with the word "Devil" in the title until I was about 25 lol. Looking at gameplay and clips now, it feels really childish and I've clearly outgrown it.

DMC5 played good though, so I'd never take that away from it. But otherwise I have to force myself to enjoy the wacky woohoo pizza man

I think there is a lot of merit to DMCs tone and content as an edgy cool game without stereotypical degenerate elements. The reboot is what you get when somebody takes DMC "seriously" and thinks the only way to make a character have an edge to them is to fuck, swear, smoke, and all around be a prick.

Maybe it is a bit juvenile, but I love that Dante is a pretty genuinely heroic guy out there having a good time beating up monsters and saving the day, then rewarding himself with some pizza for a job well done.

Maybe it is a bit juvenile, but at least it is earnest and clean.

If you run in a circle, pick a different wall. You'll get one that takes you by the exit eventually.
