The Australian totalitarian megathread - She won't be right mate.

G'day boys, today we will discuss how to solve the housing crisis. What are your solutions?

Hardmode, don't blame migrants. They mainly impact rentpods anyway.
Go around and offer fivers to any real estate agent or autioneers you can find for the homes they're selling

Alternatively just go to a building society rather than a fucking bank or something

Jacinta Price vows that the "Coalition’s Government Efficiency Unit", which is totally not DOGE, will "make Australia great again"

but that totally has absolutely nothing to do with Trump either, and she didnt even make the connection herself, just a coincidence surely..

and if you make any kind of link or connection about MAGA VS MAGA you are just trump obsessed, apparently

the lack of identity is embarrassing
"Get Australia Back On Track" might not have the same ring to it but it has its own identity at least

Because she was their beard

They knew the main point of criticism would be dats raycizm so it helped to have a brown person to put out to blunt that argument

It's not like the role required our best and brightest
Doesn't make her a thicko either.

If you can withstand having to listen to Sarah Ferguson's incredibly annoying questioning style, listen to this interview (just as an example) - does she perform badly in any way?

I don't think she's amazing, but she is competent enough, and that's about the best we can ask for of someone who will never be more than a mid-level minister.

  • Agree
Reactions: TouchFluffyTail
nothing she has done shields her from criticism
nobody is saying she needs to be fired and thrown out of her job and nobody is saying she did a bad job in the past
but we dont need any more American influence in our politics than we already have
so im going to have a laugh when she says "MAGA" then accuses others of being Trump obsessed

I think it's an understandable 'slip' - let's face it, the MAGA brand has been around for a decade now. It's one of the most recognisible slogans in the world. If anyone says 'Make Australia', there's a good chance that everyone's finishing the sentence with 'Great Again' in their heads. It's memorable, it's in your face, people have been saying it jokingly and seriously for years. Anyone who's done public speaking will know that in that kind of environment, your brain starts running on autopilot.

it does not excuse it or her response which was worse than what she said
this cant be defended, her response to saying it was really silly
if she had said, what you just said, i would have said "ah fuck it who cares"
but what did she do? at a "not DOGE" event btw
"what i said had nothing to do with Trump you are all Trump obsessed"
what you said? she should have said that, and i probably would have accepted it from her

Yeah, but I've had time to think about it and she was in the cauldron of another one of the million useless press conferences they roll out the pollies for. Ultimately I don't care about it because it's not real. The whole way we interact with politicians through the media has created this artificial environment where the game is to robotically say the correct scripted line. When they slip, people get up in arms, but then we also complain that pollies aren't real enough.

Alfred Deakin and Andrew Fisher never had to deal with this silliness.

its fairly obvious the coalition were going to attempt to run a populist MAGA style campaign here, they even put in place minister Nampijinpa Price was going to be the newly minted minister for government efficiency, i wonder what her department would be called? It wouldnt shock me if some form of Make australia great again style slogan was workshopped.

it just so happened trumps managed to in 4 months tank that entire plan by alienating the entire world, When Labor managed to form majority government (which is my prediction) it will be the liberals initial gameplan of hitching their wagon to trump style politics that will be the main cause of it,

No, I think they were going to try and borrow elements of the branding if it looked like gaining them votes.

The only parts they've even attempted to embrace in part is cutting government bureaucracy and 'ending wokeness', which are just new versions of cutting red tape and ending political correctness. They fit perfectly fine within neoliberal orthodoxy.

They wouldn't dare suggest that they are going to work wholesale to bring manufacturing back to Australia and throw away the neoliberal trade position that started under Hawke and Keating. They wouldn't dare suggest nationalising Qantas or the Commonwealth Bank. They wouldn't dare suggest supporting a federal 'babies born alive' bill that would provide care for Australian citizens. They wouldn't dare suggest serious tax reform. They wouldn't dare suggest giving power back to the states. All these are the kinds of things that an actual Australian flavoured MAGAesque campaign would at least consider.

My VPN was set in India last night and as I was scrolling Instagram I get this advert show up.

Screenshot_20250413-175246~2.webp

I had to look up what a 'lakh' was but it's 100,000. So this is a UK based company, advertising in India, saying they want 500K immigrants who will get free school, medical and a pension.

This is why so many jeets are flooding the country. I'm guessing they show this advert elsewhere but it boils my fucking blood seeing it.

i was on my rounds checking for anything worth posting, the aus reddit is my last stop if its boring
