I agree with Mr Beefy to a certain extent, but not because of any politics, but because Tom CHOSE to keep Andrew even though he was abusing and endangering them, even though he was and is a fraud ( yes faking disabilities and conning various services / entities to play into a game like that is fraud).... not only that Tom and his wife never took into account how badly Joe has suffered and just how damaged and broken that poor man is today because of all of this. - now to be fair I DO NOT think Tom and company deserve it; but i do feel that they brought it on themselves. The way I see it, there's a level of blame for not kicking their son out sooner. But yet I can't fault them for wanting to try and protect their family. Whether there's strong familial values or; given Andy's parents' ages. Breaking up the family by kicking one of them out is extremely unfeasible. To leave and go no contact is one thing, but to forcibly remove another seems realistically impossible for them to fathom.

I could be drastically wrong; but I believe Tom's sister had possibly influenced Andy to what he is today through affirming his delusions and making Tom sound like he's the worst person in Andrew's life. I don't blame Tom too much for wanting to keep his family together if it was possible. But it came at a real price for them all dealing with Andrew's bullshit.

I think people like you are neglecting to think about how Andy will actively go after people who he thinks have fucked with him. It's easy to be the guy on the outside who can say 'Why didn't Tom did X or Y' but you have to put yourself in his shoes. His son is a vindictive schizophrenic who will make up any sick fantasy to try and fuck with people. He's got a tap on every resource avaliable to him. In fact you don't even have to actively be antagonizing Andy for him to try and sic legal resources on you. Consider having some crazy person who has 24 hours in a day to constantly try and get you in trouble. I've always thought Tom kept him around to have more of a leash on his fucked up behaviors. Law enforcement up in their hometown know anything Andy says is false but imagine the damage the fat lump creep could cause if just ONE person takes everything he says at face value. If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure whenever Andy was kicked out it resolved in one of two scenarios One Andy broke into the house. Two APS forced Tom to take him back after he was discharged ran away etc. I believe Tom even tried to evict him at one time, but the judge would not allow it due to Andy's disabilities. So, I can't put too much blame on Tom. That is of course if my recollection is valid.

I personally don’t have kids but sometimes I watch the news and see that people who have killed people have their parents showing up for them in court, bailing them out, supporting them. Some parents are quick to kick their kid out for the smallest of things, and some parents would die for their children. Andy is so unbelievably lucky to have a father like Tom. the thing is, Andy's been a terror to the household since he was a child. We know Janet shielded Andy from a lot of consequences, and was the reason why the charges for the oil diffuser incident were dropped. Once she's gone, a lot of that protection will be gone. Tom knows andy CAN work and is fairly smart when it comes to technology, but he just doesn't want to do anything with that talent.

Knowing andy, he'll likely call Tom and do his usual shit during the funeral. I think he'll push his luck and try to make his mom's death all about him like when his aunt died (despite treating her like shit when she was alive.) Janet will barely be cold when Andy will scream at Tom for some selfish reason, maybe even claim Tom killed Janet through neglect, or Andy will claim that he was always there for his mom and loved her more than Tom. Some ridiculous and obvious lie like that. And that will be the moment that Tom, already grief-stricken may finally cut Andy off for good.

I'd say this is just speculation, but we have precedent with the aunt's death that Andy has pulled this kinda shit before.
