Since you went OT, I'll respond to it, bc it's an annoying and gratuitous (and tired) OT.

Floyd wasn't/ isn't valorized for being a person with a criminal history or for doing drugs or drinking. His character is irrelevant. Some people going insane and coining, "Saint Floyd" aren't saying he was a perfect person. They're saying he died a needless death. If they're taking liberties with the terminology, that's just the crime of emotionality and loose definition.

The point of that hyperbole is that despite multiple opportunities - and even suggestions by at least one police officer to take a different approach out of concern for Floyd's state - choices were made to take the approach taken. In other words, his death was not inevitable, and he would not have died but for the decisions made by Chauvin (whose hold was also not SOP, but rather came with a caution in training) and others.

If you can't distinguish between the two concepts, you either don't understand the true America or are being just as emotional and irrational as those who used the man's death to whip up a frenzy and exploit everyone.

On topic: I agree on "xxxxx pride" for everything. Flaws or even random characteristics don't need to make a person feel terrible or inept, but they're also not something to be proud of, unless you do something to be proud of with them. Be unbothered by them, but why "proud"?
