He’s one of the many commentators who always remind me of this image when he opens his mouth:

He’s a grifting “comic” who is famous because he’s friends with Joe Rogan, who has him on his podcast on a regular basis. Every time, Dave tells anti-Israel morons and Jew haters what they want to hear. This episode with Douglas Murray was the first time he’s ever been challenged on Rogan, who has bought into and often regurgitates Smith’s reality-detached narratives. He has next to no knowledge (and even less understanding) of the most basic facts about Israel. Whenever someone points out that Dave doesn’t know WTF he’s talking about, he replies with “Hey I’m just a comedian, don’t expect me to be a scholar!” or “So I’m not allowed to have an opinion?!” <cathynewman.gif>

For years Dave has regurgitated wholly the messaging of his butt buddy and fellow ignoramus Scott Horton, a very online Libertarian (as in the party). At one point Dave was discussed as the favored presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party, which tells you how unserious he is.

Dave identifies as Jewish but I’ve found no evidence that his mother is a Jew. Obviously if she’s not, he’s not either. “Patrilineal Jews” aren’t Jews but Dave likely doesn’t know that either. In any case, it has no relevance to his years of bullshit spouting about Israel. It’s merely a shield he uses to insulate himself from accusations of being antisemitic.

I have met Dave and I really don’t think he hates Jews. He thinks he’s recruiting new people to his libertarian movement by cozying up to literal retards like Candace Owens and Jake Shields, as well as Qatar-funded stooges like Tucker Carlson. Dave genuinely thinks spouting garbage about Israel is the most helpful thing he can do to win people over to his nebulous concept of liberty. In reality he’s just a person of extremely limited knowledge and intelligence who parrots what his buddy Scott Horton says and then cries “I’m just a comic!” when he’s shown to be talking out of his ass. (Dave is low-key afraid of Scott, a manipulative idealogue who has used Dave as his mouthpiece for over a decade.) The problem is that other nitwits listen to Dave and think he sounds smart because they have no idea he’s operating outside of reality.

He’s by far the most intelligent, erudite and eloquent public intellectual of our generation. No one else even comes close. And he’s spent much of the past nearly two years on the ground in the greater Gaza area. Which is why it’s maddening to listen to Dave — who’s never been to Israel and thus has no familiarity with the situation on the ground (versus what he’s been told by Scott Horton) — challenge Douglas as if he knows and understands what’s going on better than Douglas does.

The four questions get a funny revamp. I particularly enjoy JVP's take on the wicked "oppositional" child.

Kid 2: The oppositional child: knows their own truth, resisting interventions and taking a stand against convention. And that through fierce difference, we can see another way, beyond the status quo.

Kid 3: The simple child: simply turns their back, unable to compute, unable to believe that a Jewish state, Jewish communities, Jewish institutions, and Jewish family members, could be in cahoots of an ongoing genocide.

p. 29-30 includes a rundown on the "10 Spiritual Plagues of Genocidal Zionism." This section includes a lot of new agey language, as you're prompted to anoint your various chakras while reflecting on the innumerable ways that Zionism is bad:

On p. 34, there's a blessing invoking the "Queen of the Cosmos." I'm not sure what the hell that's supposed to mean; maybe it's just a hippie way of referring to the Shekhinah.

p. 46-48 includes instructions for making a "Tikkun Olam Box" as an alternative to traditional "Tzedakah (charity) boxes" created by the colonialist genocide apartheid JNF.

Place the box where you will be reminded of how you are building the future Palestinians and all of us deserve. Maybe at eye level, maybe in a window where the sun rises, maybe on an altar, maybe near your bedside?

When searching for the afikomen, "our minds may go to the hundreds of thousands of Gazans searching for family members, friends and colleagues buried beneath rubble."

Even if I were an anti-Zionist, I'd find this haggadah's all-consuming obsession with the Palestinian cause peculiar. Take a leaf through it yourself; there's barely any room for the Exodus in it. It's like receiving a Christmas card with an image of the nativity on the front, and then inside it says, "Merry Christmas! FUCK CHRISTIANITY. DEATH TO CHRISTIANS. In Jesus' name, amen."

Douglas Murray is about the only political talking head in the world I really like. I disagree with a lot of his positions on issues, and it's good to have somewhere you can hear an intelligent case made for the opposing view. It's a shame "The Strange Death of Europe" seems to have gotten so little exposure among people who don't already agree with its main points. Most of the people I know who are familiar with it believe it's racist but haven't actually read it.

I admire how Murray maintained his composure and was patient enough to keep talking to that "comedian", trying to explain in the simplest terms the situation both in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza. Smith cannot put together a coherent argument or convey his ideas, the guy could only list random dates, names, and/or events, as if it were some sort of own.

I'd never heard of Dave Smith before, but as soon as he started claiming that basically every problem and/or conflict in the world ever is the fault of the US it became clear to me that he is an absolute retarded ignorant man of the highest degree.

You’re giving him too much credit. All of Dave’s scripts have for over a decade been written by Scott Horton. They had a huge falling out a year or so ago when Dave declined to run for POTUS as the Libertarian Party candidate (his wife REALLY objected). Horton saw this as Dave depriving him of his rightful place in history. All of which just underscore how completely out of touch with reality they both are. Dave was almost suicidal without Horton by his side to tell him what to think and say. Eventually they made up and Dave is as enthralled with him as ever. It’s all very fucking gay.
