4chan has been in a weird stasis for a decade now, good in the sense that it keeps the same structure of the site intact but because of this it is unable to adapt properly to new issues and keep the culture alive. Nothing lasts forever but if you leave it alone it's just going to deteriorate over time. The cold approach from the mods/admins and general lack of interactions with them has definitely added to the problem.

To be specific, as I remember it he got bootyblasted hard because people started calling him a cuck (first real introduction of "cuck" into internet slang I believe), then the GamerGate shitstorm caused him to all but give up on actually running 4chan the way it used to be. He censored /v/ which caused the (short-lived) 8chan exodus, then turned /pol/ into the toilet bowl of the website, which even after being restored to "normal" it never recovered from. 2014 was in fairness a shit fucking year, between the fappening and the (((gaming journos))) descending on 4chan, I don't envy his position and the things he had to handle. But his sensitivity to the push back you mentioned obviously made him lose his passion for running the site.

Hiro never had an interest in running the site. It's pretty obvious by the way moot and Hiro handled themselves - while moot would appear fairly often around the site, albeit less frequently as time went on, Hiro appeared what, like 3 or 4 times tops? I wouldn't be surprised if half the time it was someone skinwalking as him using his account. I don't know what Hiro's ultimate goal for 4chan was. Money, presumably. The shilling of 4chan passes made that clear enough, but I still wonder if he had any other goals with the site. It's been discussed for a while on /v/ at least that RapeApe was running the show instead of Hiro anyways. I just hope we know at the end of this fully what the fuck has been happening for 10 years, because I believe there's some serious tomfuckery at play with the site for a long time now.

It got so bad even Ben garrison started shitting on him when he got pissed about 4cuck. He couldn't handle the heat.



Also I think hiro appeared a few times on the Japanese culture centric boards and then fucked off, never gave a god damn about the site culture because he couldn't/didn't want to read English. And it's pretty much confirmed rape ape was the leader of the site in his place for a few years. Rape ape fucking sucked but whoever is in charge now and took away ip counters (probably to make shilling easier) is even worse. There is some seriously smelly government or intrest group bullshit going on currently and I agree I hope we find out what it is.
