No idea why they‘re so cheap over here.

It's a hand built Italian Ford.

Old ferraris are crap.

Old, Mid Engine Ferrari's for sure. They didn't get good until the 348, took another nose dive with the 355 and then got good again with the F430.

Front Mid Engine V12's have always been good. Even the shitty ones like the 400i are still decent cars.

Toyota dropped the ball hard on the IS500. Compared to a M340, it lacks adequate cooling for the engine and transmission, bad tranny programming, and is slower. Japanese performance type cars always have the problem of having inadequate heat exchangers. The V8 in that may be a high revving riot, but we all know the best engine layout is the inline 6.

Yeah, there's a reason they didn't call it the ISF.

I did autocross in one and while it was a hoot it was definitely not the best car for the job.

Toyota is not good at performance cars and they never have been. Toyota has a few hits but their product line in general has never been known for performance cars but ordinary stuff. The IS500 comes out and it's promising at first because it doesn't weigh over 4000lbs like every other V8 sedan on the market then it turns out it's less of a competitor in the sport sedan arena than the ISF was. The ISF which was a last place contender in the sport sedan world when it was new was also too soft, auto only, and slower than all of its competition.

2000GT
ST205 Celica
MKIV Supra
LFA

Everything else has fallen short of the competition whether Japanese or otherwise. Even the LFA, which was universally known as an excellent car, a technical marvel, and one of the best sounding cars around, was an underachiever for its price range.

Toyota still made some ordinary hits with good performance bones though like the MRS and MR2, Chaser, Cressida, Altezza, and the like. Why they can't make anything with a simple formula like their preview FR cars is a quandary.

I actually agree. But mister 2 is absurd. The LF500 now is a rocket I love it. I think it's engineered like a master piece. But stats more there or raw more out there. But It's so good man. When my brother was working for Lexus dealer I got into a LF it is fucking NICE. Now you're dollar to power/etc. It's not the best but hot lordy. It's good.

Now I consider my a car snob and yeah bang for buck isn't there. Related my FIL has a new Z I adore it.. it's too much money but aside.

Anyone know place that does got proper P&P" for Tbodies? I: have niche one to do. Maxbore retired :(.

I love my retard wife but she's on the exotic buy...

Does anyone port throttle bodies anymore? I haven't seen that as a regular thing since the late 2000s.

Unsure what you mean by LF500, LC500? LS500? I don't like the LC it epitomizes everything wrong with current lexus design language with its massive warped hourglass grille, strange headlights and absurdly high hood line that clashes with its low sloped beltline (a shitbox design cue that belongs on shitboxes). Regardless, I love the 1st gen MR2 and 2nd gen turbo as much as anyone but they were not among the greatest performance car hits of Toyota, they weren't stellar performers at all really, just special because they made MR somewhat affordable.

My friend has driven a LC 500 for 2 years.

Let me say this:

Driving on the Autobahn with 160 miles/hr (250 km/h) with around 2000 RPM because of its 10 gears is awesome.

... Having to replace a cat that is made out of ceramic and platinum for 15k after 20k miles is not so awesome.

That's a big deal though. A performance drivetrain layout for substantially cheaper is the right kind of bones Toyota lacks now. The saying "poor man's Porsche" is a compliment to the MR2 series. Now there's no budget Porsche, just Porsche.

I've tracked an LC500. It is competent. I think it looks great as well. Pretty solid car all around. They'll be a deal when they hit 40k on the used market.

Your friend should move out of the ghetto.
Uhhh he drove it on the Autobahn fast & furious all the time.

Apparently the LC does not like heat all that much.
Which is why the cat killed itself.

Are used LCs going down in price?

Last time I checked they hold their value pretty well.
But maybe because in Germany they sell like 40 of them a year lmao.

Toyota fanboys hail the LC500 as some exquisite automotive piece of art, so it might not depreciate like a SL63 AMG

It's cool and all but it's a jack of all trades, master of none:
- A base 911 is faster
- A F-Type has better sound
- A Lotus has (arguably) better looks
- A SL63 has the better dealer network (In Germany we have a Mercedes dealer every 10 miles)
- If you want something exotic then a McLaren is the same money now

ONLY if you don't care about any of that then the LC ist right for you.

People praise "Reliability" but then only drive it for 3 months a year in the summer and put like 5k miles a year on it.
I don't know but back in my day a car with 200k miles and still going strong was called "reliable"

All of that is subjective, except for "911 is better" which is the case for every sports car.

I'm not a 22 year old rapper and can afford a Ferrari so I'd never buy a McLaren.

It's definitely a piece of modern art, because it's ugly. The diverging hood and belt lines are a shitbox design cue and the headlights are a mess stylistically. What's with the upside down lambda that wraps around the main part of the headlight then trails down to the vent that represents a brake cooling duct on a real performance car? The radical design change in lexus cars in general has been strange to me since day 1. They went from subdued to extremely aggressive styling. The grotesque stretched hourglass grille, the pinched front ends, the highly stretched wraparound headlights that look like something from positive canthal tilt meme.

What is a catalytic converter "cap" and why would someone take one off on an aftermarket exhaust, resulting in an exhaust leak?

Catalytic converters are quite expensive to replace, so some people go for flame arresters instead. It makes your exhaust smell like shit and is probably illegal in all countries (but the actual enforcement of this varies), and also you need to update your firmware on on-board computer for Euro-1/Euro-2 regulations (idk how they are called in USA). It also makes your engine produce somewhat more power with less fuel.

No they are not...18 months ago I found a 5L one in Germany for 65,000 Euros and bought an Aston instead. Can't find a non-hybrid piece of shit fake engine noise crap version for less than 70 at the moment.

The reason I didn't buy? The Lexus Relax 10 year warranty wasn't avalible in my country because reasons, and if I was going to buy a car with potentially killer bills if it fails, I was going for a 6L V12.

Yep, but a totally different experience. As an Ex Evora S owner, I wouldn't even begin to compare it to the LC 500 which is more of a cruiser. The Evora was great when it didn't randomly go into limp-home mode, or the clutch wasn't on the floor because the clutch fluid line is right next to the engine and boils off when you park it.

The Lexus Relax warranty is a meme.
It covers stuff that wouldn't go wrong in a new Lexus anyway.

The juicy stuff is not covered.
It's bait to keep you going to Lexus dealerships for those sweet, sweet service fees every year.

Oh yeah and don't you dare drive on the track and get engine damage while under warranty.
Toyota gets extremely anal about it.
