it'll probably take them a very long time to get the site back up. I feel like they don't really have a responsible server administrator, and whoever is fixing this is basically going to need to:
1. Reformat the entire device.
2. Reinstall 4chan.
3. Restore 4chan's database to the last save state, if available.

But who is the person responsible for this? Does anyone know how to do this? They're running it on FreeBSD, last updated in 2019. Does ANYONE Hiroyuki has contact with actually know how 4chan actually works right now, enough to completely reformat a server and get this running?

I don't think it's really about an older state of 4chan and it's post. It's more like all the admins, mods, and jannies making sure they won't get doxed again. Which I suspect will take longer than just reloading 4chan again. Everyone who does it for free will need to free up a few hours and change any necessary info about themselves. Probably even somehow fix up whatever exploit made their entire site that vulnerable in the first place.

I doubt anyone will shed a tear over it. Attached is a meme about the jannies on /lgbt/. Not a board I frequented since it was essentially /x/ with trannies, but it's a sentiment you'd find about jannies on basically every board. No interest in preserving actual discussion, but instead protecting shitposters and even banning users who criticized their lack of moderation. I wouldn't be surprised if we learn a good amount of spam came from janny ips.
The only place I've seen defend 4chan jannies is reddit, going by the r/4chan screencaps I've seen posted here recently. Tells you all you need to know. The rest of the world is hailing this as a great day for humanity.

Even if it comes back how are mods going to deal with the endless mockery and spam? Because mind you they didnt get "hacked" by some 14 year old boy from Pakistan (unlike this digital Fort Knox) but the fucking sharty of all places. Anon will never let them live this down, its just going to be constant reminders that /qa/ won and lots of ´jaks to boot, in the first few weeks its going to drown out any other discussion.
Mods fucking hate the sharty so what are they gonna do? They are not going to reopen /qa/ thats for sure. Are they gonna implement even stricter moderation banning anybody making fun of them? 24 hour timer for new IPs?
The fallout from that nuclear own might just kill the site for good, then its really just going to be bots botting bots. Good riddance I guess.
I suppose that the reason as to why they're taking so long is that they're forming an entirely new team of jannies, searching who might be enough of a fucking idiot as to get into that hot mess, and that may take a long time not only because of the sheer amount of boards but because of the impending threat of another doxx wave.

They go full mask off and allow remaining mods to do whatever they want to moderate boards now. The last decade the MO of the website is not to mention anything and act like everything is fine. We saw this with 8chan exodus around that time is when boards used to get updated as a response once 8chan started to die they all got lazy again. Expect even worse moderation since like I said the mods who stay after doxxed are the insane types who crave power and they know 4chan addicts will come back once the site is back

Go ahead and call me a retard, but I truly do think that if 4chan is actually kill, it would be a loss even in it's current zombified state.

If it does come back all the guys saying they will stay here will not stay. You are simply too addicted that if you didnt make a kiwi account years ago you will go back once they get the website back up. You will still use the website even after we have full confirmation on literal tranny jannies who run the website into the ground and they will not make any mention to it whatsoever and continue to ignore all issues like they have for the last decade. The jannies who stay even after doxxed will be the true psychos who will just be even more bold in their control over boards/generals now. I will be shocked if they even directly mention it they would probably even outright ban mentions to the hack much like how 8chan is still a banned word there
Hilariously I did make an account a couple years back but lost interest and the damn email I used. I didn't see any substantial benefit over just listening to your (and I guess now my?) edaddy's podcast. But now the chans are gonna be down for a week at least and I've been trying to socialize more so fuck it might as well give here a shot.

i wont lie though, if this is the end, i will really miss my /jazz/ and /gondola/
There's a lot of genuine discussion that still happened on the site, even after all the spikes in users and other dust-ups with drama. Lots of generals as you said with earnest conversation and regular users, it sucks if it's gone permanently. I hate seeing stuff like this die out over time, call it nostalgiafagging but the site did serve a role as the internet's most accessible niche for being (relatively) free speak your mind, even with jannies being trannies. I think the gems made it worth the shit, no pun intended. One more step towards the sterilization and consolidation of the net.
I think anyone that created an account in April 15 2025 should have a permanent pink triangle.
make it the pizzagate triangle

/v/ & /vg/ = Video game board
/a/ & /tv/ & /co/ = Multimedia board
/vt/ = Vtuber board
/biz/ = business board
/g/ = Internet and technology board
/ic/ & /lit/ = Art board
/diy/ & /k/ & /out/ = self sufficiency board
/qa/ = Q&A board
/pol/ & /news/ = thunderdome

Lots of others too
This is good advice.
But where will all the BBC spamming jeets from /gif/ go?
