Ironically, Youtube comments have risen massively in quality since then, especially compared to nearly every other site on the internet.

It completely depends on the channel you're on of course, but on the good ones you tend to have comments that far surpass anything Reddit or 4chan could muster these days.
Are you joking? The youtube comment section is absolutely awful nowadays. Every single comment on music is just "who is watching in 2025?" and every other comment is just like "bro really just did X💀

New account don't crucify me! I've lurked for a while, been stewing on this one for a long time, but now is the perfect opportunity to share it with all that's come to light:

I've had a theory for a while about crowdsourced propaganda. It's well understood that 4chan sits at the top of the internet food chain, and memes, narratives, ideas drip down from there to everywhere else. 4chan is able to get away with doing and saying horrendous things, while a site like Kiwifarms gets their service pulled.

Why? I think it is essentially crowdsourcing propaganda.

The way that 4chan operates, as I'm sure you all know, is that people aggregate ideas, iterate on them, and make them more and more spreadable. With the advent of /pol/, suddenly that all became highly politically charged. Basically, by fostering a community of people who say and do the most extreme and eye-catching things, anonymously, they can create untraceable propaganda that adapts on the fly to current events, and only gets more and more eye-catching and extreme.

So they let them do what they do, and then prune, vet, and delete things they don't like, or that go against the message they're trying to push. Due to its anonymous nature, 4chan operates as a sort of post-truth social network, there's no REAL fact-checking or proof, you just have to make something that gets people's attention, and it'll get spread down the pipeline to Reddit, Xitter, all kinds of messageboards, Discords.

This all sounds conspiratorial, but when you take into account that 4chan is apparently being ran and moderated by actual feds and college educated elites, suddenly it doesn't seem so crazy...

Now realize that they are literally getting people to PAY to do this. And the volume of people trying to use 4chan was getting so high as to be un-moderateable, hence the sudden need for email verification, and 900 second waiting period. If they didn't have a purpose, they wouldn't care, they'd just let people spam the board into being unusable.

I think that entire website is used to generate messaging without it appearing fed-baked, after all, why hire an out of touch propagandist to make propaganda that will be outdated in a day, when you have a legion of insane people foaming at the mouth trying to spread their ideas as quickly as possible. Just control the messages that propagate, and you can control a massive engine of internet culture.

anyway THIIIIIIIIINK ABOOOOOOOOOOOUT IT!
You haven't said anything new at all, did you watch one YouTube video?

Wishful thinking, but it would be nice to see the sane posters from hobby generals to migrate here and have a more civilized spot to discuss shit. /g/ had a few generals with comprehensive OPs that were neat, like /csg/ where people just enjoyed buying chinkshit from Ali, /iemg/ and /hpg/ for audio. There's also /sg/ from /vg/ that could migrate to the STALKER thread to shit on Grok, Griga and discuss buildo ludokino. /iemg/ helped me out finding good IEM's for a decent price, /csg/ got me to buy some cool dumb shit as well, and there's very little hobby focused discussion with guidance like this on KF.

IMO KF is the perfect place for a good chunk of 4chan users to move to. Basically the only thing keeping them on 4chan was the lack of registration and full anonymity, which came at a cost that quality discussion would often get thwarted by schizospam. But here those posters could flourish with proper moderation, discussion segmentation, archival and formatting. If anything I'll miss those few generals where you could actually find something out and have a nice discussion, where all the issues stemmed from 4chan being 4chan, but the posters themselves had their heart in the right place and you could tell that. They'd fit right in and I encourage them to join in.

/hmofa/ will forever be the niggers of the boards tho and won't even get the chance to move here, rip
Some of the hobby threads I browse are already slow enough as is, I can't imagine how slow they'd be here unless literally everyone decided to migrate. I think a lot of us are just waiting for a decent altchan to popup (assuming 4chan is dead forever)

I don't know why your post wont let me quote, I'll just assume its growing pains of the new forum version.

Not true, 4chan's hayday is long over.
Now realize that they are literally getting people to PAY to do this. Also not true, 4chan has been dying, you can check 4stats.io and see that every board is in steep decline long before the 15min waiting period. I just did a data comparison for the 3 Fishtank seasons on /tv/ and the downtrend from 2023 to today is so dramatic that i had to do a linear regressions to even the data out so everything was on a level playing field. /pol/ is actually trending back to where it was in 2015 in terms of posting activity per day. The site is so shot to shit that its safe to say its in a deathspiral, the lack of official apps for the site is also a serious issue they don't seem to give a fuck about either. As it stands there is no app for Android that is functional for years now.

I'm kinda pissed to be honest. My last post on 4chan was so lame. It was just a picture of Donkey Kong from his new game (DK Bananza) getting a banana, he punches the banana, it's made of some kind of mineral, and the banana breaks and it says "OH, Banana" in text . DK is happy at least, but his new design IS unsettling. In game it looks like his fur is made of feathers, and when he jumps in water and gets out it looks like he is made of plastic. Very bad look for the new Donkey Kong. The gameplay looks a little bit too simple for me, I'm an older man now (25) and can't really play easy, childish, videogames without feeling like a chump.
/v/ mods are huge Nintoddlers and will lick the taint of Nintendo if given the chance.

Shot in the dark, but were any of the refugees here around in the /vn/ general on /vg/? A couple years ago there was a bot that made the thread unusable by spamming nonsense posts replying to other posts. The bot could even get baited into spamming Visual Novel threads on /v/ somehow. I always wondered what the story behind that was, I know it got banned eventually. Searched this thread and didn't see any mention of it.

yeah, at this point I think it might be optimistic to see it even returning to full service, let alone getting any better. the jannies will just return more unemployed than ever, fully coping trying to silence any ridicule of this obviously massive and inexcusable fuck-up that has managed to take the site down for going on over 12 hours now.
If the trannies currently running it are too fucking stupid even to know how to update the OS and basic parts of the software, plus the source code is basically leaked (and probably spaghetti code that would embarrass the streetshittingest jeet or even Radium from SomethingAwful), who is going to rewrite it to patch everything?

The gaggle of jerkoff pedophile sex pests currently running it? At this point they need a Seal Team Six and that gouging gook Hiroshimoot isn't going to pay for that.
