Yeah, there's levels to rice. Chins rice looks either pre-cooked, long-grain, old and/or enriched. With the advent of microwaves and such there's so much pre-cooked rice as well. In the States at least, you will typically only see long grain rice available outside of specialty or foreign sections. Very commonly only Mahatma will be available, this is a long grain and enriched rice. I highly recommend getting away from long grains and trying out short grains. There's a whole rice world out there. Koshihikari is my favorite of japonica rices currently.

Chins lives in the Basmati territory now. That said, you're correct in noticing that the rice she cooks herself usually looks quite bad and the rice in this, hm, dish looks even worse than usual. I haven't paid much attention to the bags she typically bought her rice in while in Kuwait, but I will be on the lookout for brand names from now on. With "print on demand" shops like this the shop would just refund the money if it isn't going to print and ship the merch. Chantal, however, went with Spreadshop (probably because they offered her the most profit) and Spreadshop doesn't have a great rating when it comes to customer service.

Ironically this is the one time where shipping the ordered items or refunding them is not in Chantal's control. Love that for her.
