He was actually a decent producer. He did found Miramax after all.

There is this pretty interesting story about how for the movie Good Will Hunting the actors and writers sent the script all over, and got a bunch of offers and questions. Producers kept wanting to change Matt Damon out of the movie, or do modifications and such. But Weinstein was the only producer who actually agreed to the script with only tiny changes, with one exception: He asked for the oral sex scene to be removed because it made no sense.

Turns out Damon and gang deliberately put a explicit gay sex scene on the script to catch producers who were only partially reading the script. Weinstein was the only one who caught it and asked about it out of all the producers they reached out to.

I forget where I was or why, but many moons ago I happened across a magazine rack that was full of scripts for a bunch of movies.
I was surprised how they were only a couple dozen pages. I read several while waiting.

Knew a dude who spent a couple years trying to be an executive producer and one time when he was over at my place for a couple day he had a stack of scripts they'd recently acquired the rights to produce. The only one I still remember was Mistborn, which I said seemed interesting but appeared to suffer from requiring people to have read the source material. Apparently based on this feedback he chose not to make it into a film. I was in a bookstore in Ottawa in five or so years later, finally picked up a copy, and realized I'd made a terrible mistake as I read everything Brandon Sanderson had on the shelf over the next couple months. We could've had a Cosmere Cinematic Universe launched in the 2010s, bros. I'm sorry. I didn't know.

You fucking bastard!

Do agree. A lot of those 90s classics he was involved in are classy. Not the biggest fan of Good will hunting and the Tarantino stuff, but Cop Land was great, the LOTR and Wind River was fantastic.
It's a shame he's such a piece of shit because I'd argue he's maybe the best Hollywood producer of his generation and possibly one of the top 25% of all time. he was extremely hands on with pretty much every movie Miramax ever made, with mixed results but unlike most Hollywood producers he actually tried to always deliver a quality product actual people would like.

He's also one of the only reasons we ever got any foreign movies worth a fuck imported and wide released in the states. Again to mixed results, because sometimes like movies financed by him he'd go in the editing room and chop them to shit, but he generally was trying to make them into palatable crowd pleasers to your average retard buying a ticket.

A lot of real talent and good stuff wouldn't have ever had any eyes on it at all if it wasn't for him, even if some vision was compromised in the process.
