I'm first and foremost a farms user now. However I still use whats still usable on 4chan. If you missed 05-08 then that sucks, because it was more fun than anything else the Internet has ever produced.

05-08 was top tier. I think a lot of people who weren't around don't quite know how many giant hits the site took back to back. I recall, at the very least, them taking heat for some shootings that were publicized on /b/ before they happened, I also recall CP issues always being a problem, but the biggest problem was when (and I am not even sure if this was reality at this point) hackers legit started hacking high profile places using anonymous as their mascot and what followed (again as I recall) was: edgy idiot users pretending to be said hackers and claiming /b/ was coming for everybody etc, the 'not your personal army' bullshit which was kinda legit quasi-rule initially, and then the real death knell was the media coverage. I'm sure everyone remembers the infamous video of those news people discussing anonymous and making themselves look like fools.

Unfortunately the end result of all that was a huge influx of edgy wannabe normies and a crackdown on a lot of the bleeding edge internet culture that 4chan was known for. It's never even been close to what it was before all that. But you have to give them credit for sticking around this long tbh, especially considering 8chan had that christchurch thing posted and it killed the whole site within a couple of days. I remember people posting school threats and all kinda other shit on /b/ and half the time the other users would be the ones reporting it and even with all that they never got anywhere close to the level of heat that even KF has on a regular basis.

regardless, now that the sourcecode (I hope that's the source code) is leaked, and there's a huge spotlight on 4chan. That site is gonna get nuked regularly until they hire a full time dev team.

You're probably being hit with something because you don't have a static IP. Which means you're in a third world country(or maybe upside down prison island - not sure if they migrated to static IP over dynamic yet). Or you're phoneposting.
Granted there's a chance I'm part of some weird privileged class of "regular users" and don't have to deal with that shit as a result but considering I've been hit with a fuckton of dumb ass bans I highly doubt it.
The only time I've ever seen the 900 second timer(or additional 60 second timer) is when phoneposting via a mobile network.

the source code for the site was just posted you can go look at it, the captcha runs the timer if you don't have an active cookie

I'm surprised no one's done it yet and posted the results. I haven't compiled anything this ancient in a long time. Could take hours sourcing the packages etc
