You are born a psychopath. You become a sociopath. Sociopathy is a scale, a spectrum even. Basically to describe anti-social behavior. For example if every time you visit a store you steal from it due to a camera blind spot, but not get caught. It's sociopathic behavior, but it doesn't make you a full blown sociopath since you aren't diagnosed and didn't suffer consequences, maybe over time you stop the behavior due to guilt or having money. Most sociopathic behavior is closely linked to narcotic abuse and/or trauma, from alcohol to meth/cocaine. Since those substances hijack the brains reward regions so you orient your behavior for the next hit, with utter apathy towards how it affects others to avoid withdrawal symptoms. The more you missuse and the more addicted you are, the more sociopathic you become. Sociopathic behavior can even manifest in other addictive behavior such as heavy porn use, as you fill that void you developed due to traumatic experiences, or sometimes due to how you are wired naturally even with a loving family, your brain becomes accustomed to quick sexual thrills due to pornography which can lead you to neglect schooling, romantic partners, family obligations etc because they don't give pleasure, unlike porn. The higher you are on the sociopathy scale the less remorse you feel about commiting legal and moral crimes. You might feel guilt, some use it to change, some do not.
Psychopathy on the other hand is characterized by the use of intellect instead of emotions, that are more shallow than a normal brain. In breaking bad when Todd kills the kid, he doesn't feel bad, and would do it again, because logically in his eyes if he let him go then they might get caught. While a sociopath who did it might feel guilt, but drowns it out with narcotics, like when Tuco beat the shit out of his henchman in broad daylight killing him while high on narcotics.
If you're using psych labels, Trunch falls under the label of a sociopath due to anti-social behavior and impulsivity. Psychopaths are not impulsive, but calculated. Like Patrick Bateman: charming on the surface but hollow on the inside.
Both are treatable. A psycho can be prevented into indulging in killings of humans by sublimating it into more socially acceptable behavior, and coaching them from a young age how they differ from others, telling them the consequences which can beffall them that they can logically understand. Sociopathy is both preventable and reversable, preventable by a healthy family dynamic and being taught better, and reversable by giving rehab for substances and turning guilt into remorse. Remorse requires empathy. Guilt is self oriented.
If Trunch is a psycho, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We likely wouldn't know. Trunch DFEing is guilt, as they change their own behavior to presumably avoid shame. If she felt remorse, she would quit both drawing and making pornography.
