What specific notification behavior is normal vs. anomalous I couldn't tell you. I only mention these details in the hope that it helps you isolate the problem.

And also because you had said "it appears to only happen if your post triggers the 'Messages have been posted since you loaded this page' alert. I'm not sure if that's accurate." which from my limited testing seems incorrect (see below).

Christmas Example:

1. I go to a lower traffic thread which I've never seen or posted in which has no activity for a couple of days, since Monday. (Contrapoints thread )

2. I go to the last contrapoints thread page (435), scroll past all the posts, and reload for good measure. If I post a reply on this last page of the thread, the post goes through and the reply box clears as expected.

3. I then go to the second to last contrapoints thread page (page 434), scroll past all the posts to the bottom, reload, then scroll to the bottom again for good measure. I type a reply and submit it.

4. The reply box doesn't clear on post submission, and the moment the reply submits it shows a "There are more posts to display. View them?" notification. Below that it shows the two most recent posts from the last page on the thread followed by my new reply.

But the reply box doesn't clear.

If I click the "View them?" link it takes me to the top of the last page of the thread.

Probably all got mentioned before but still.
Issue with not being able to quote any part of large posts when highlighting them.
Another issue with text still staying in the reply box after you post.

Can the random_text.txt be made a couple sizes bigger? At its curent size it is easy to miss. In the previous theme, I believe the text size was the same as the default text size in the posts, or very close to it.
 
This is probably just a single symptom of a larger bug, but this just what I noticed immediately.
the css rules for .structItem-cell, amongst others, don't work if you're not logged in.
this results in an ugly lack of padding on the featured content

I think there's an entire style sheet you don't get unless you're logged in or something. Don't have time to debug further right now.

since it makes the site work faster it's probably better to keep it. however, to offset the weight on our souls of using the devil's image format, maybe support could be added for other formats that only cool and knowledgeable people use like RealMedia

I despise the Twitter card style post links, but if we're going to have them, can the border at least be visible? Or the background more highly contrasted against the containing post background? Every time I see one I think it's a malformed image or CSS bug.

Since we're updating shit, can you please GOD add an option to search by date without having to go into the advanced options setting?
