Even Babur, the Uzbek founder of the Mughal dynasty, disliked India. Despite conquering large swathes of it, he soon discovered that India kind of sucks. From his memoirs:Uzbekistan hates Indians for some reason.
Hindūstān is a country of few charms. Its people have no good looks; of social intercourse, paying and receiving visits, there is none; of genius and capacity none; of manners none; in handicraft and work there is no form or symmetry, method or quality; there are no good horses, no good dogs, no grapes, musk-melons or first-rate fruits, no ice or cold water, no good bread or cooked food in the bāzārs, no hot baths, no colleges, no candles, torches or candlesticks.... There are no running-waters in their gardens or residences. These residences have no charm, air, regularity or symmetry.
To be fair, when Babur tries to think of something good about India, he says the weather is sometimes nice and it has a lot of gold and silver and "endless workmen of every kind." Hindus today can't help but seethe over the Mughals' achievements.
