Another reason I guess is that it would be cheaper for her in the long run. Ozempic would be an on going expense while the surgery is one and done.
If only that were true. WLS is expensive, and there are definitely ongoing costs if done correctly. Admittedly vitamins and regular blood tests are less expensive than jabs, but unlike jabs which can be stopped anytime, the supplements are lifelong expenses. Then there are ongoing surgeon follow ups, re-occurring complication costs (eg ulcers, endoscopies, bowel issues) and if successful, plastic surgery costs.
It's very suspicious to me. As far as I know, to have the surgery you need to do A LOT of prep work, not just one month before. It's not a decision you make that close to surgery. Also, the recovery is hell. Who would look after the kids? Sam or no one (I'd prefer no one). The way she phrased it so casually makes no sense. But then, nothing she does makes sense to me.
The recovery isn’t that hard at all. It’s the 6 week post-op diet that some people find really difficult. Plus once eating a more normal diet it can take some time to accept bariatric portion sizes are significantly smaller than what others can eat. True “dumping syndrome “ is actually much rarer than people think. Most folk who claim they have it, actually don’t, and just need to adjust to their new digestive system being different to what they’ve become accustomed to. Beyond the diet, Gastric Bypass isn’t really painful. There are some initial lifting restrictions as with any abdominal/pelvic surgery, but most other activities can be resumed within a few days, understanding that fatigue will be a thing. Yaba would still be able to look after her kids, it may just fall to Sam to do the school run for the first week.
The lead in depends on both insurance requirements and the surgeon. Some companies require a 6 month monitored weightloss program with a bariatric clinic, some require a three month one, and the rare ones requires none. HOWEVER…all bariatric surgeons require the patient to be a non-smoker/vaper. Last I watched Yaba, she was a heavy vaper… when did she give up. A smoker WILL get an ulcer…it’s not a case of IF, it’s a case of WHEN.
She’s also not giving reasons for wanting surgery that would hold up with getting psych approval. Spite and bullying certainly wouldn’t cut it. She has no support network to assist her, rather Sam and her kids will do the opposite. With the mindset she is showing, she’s setting herself up for the short term success in what is called “the honeymoon period” (the first 6-12 months when weightloss is inevitable) with longer term regain. Plus, if you are imagining your future success based on Amy and Tammy (different surgery) Slaton’s results, then that’s a low bar indeed.
I’m all for WLS for the right people with a good mindset, a willingness to have ongoing monitoring, and a good support network. From what she’s shown us, Yaba doesn’t have that. I expect that IF she has a gastric bypass, she’ll go the way of Fat Alex Rodriguez.
Edit: trying to make a couple of sentences make sense.
