I believe that the reality is worse than that. The scrapped footage was the better video, it was the video that matched the cringe wake up into. The therapist asked Ian, "Don't you think that's kind of mean?" Or said something like, "That reminds me of the OLD you." and Ian felt bad and decided to talk into the camera for an hour instead of actually putting effort into producing something.
