They do keep ban histories which is a bit sketchy but it isn't unusual.

I do think that's what this is about. There's no reason the ban cannot publicly say "called people jews and niggers 100 times". Allowing this sort of resentment to fester hidden away breeds redditors.

Like any website with jannies, experiences may vary. Still it's nice actually talking to our mods, because some are interesting. They might watch the same lolcow as you, know things about particular subjects, etc. They're actual people, not invisible forces of nature.

I'm bouncing between the 3 last options. I got phases where I go a week with no internet lurking (only email and calender). sometimes I scroll though the alt. boards and the farms. I have noticed that not putting your eggs in one basket is the best option. As "reddit" it might sound, balancing it out gives you a better perspective on things, and it's more important than evern considering how psyop'ish some sites has gotten. So if you diversify it (kek). you have smaller risk of lurking in a circlejerking echo chambers, bot sites and honeypots in one instance. Spread the risks so to speak.

If you want to know specifically what I'm personally waiting for, there is a general I have lurked for about 3 years now. It's populated by maybe 5 people, maybe 30 on rare occasions. We don't have any other way of contacting each other, we meet there on a schedule to talk. Those people might be gone forever, all because someone was mad at the administration.

/v/ is definitely adversarial because of the sheer amount of mismanaging theyve done over the years. I've been personal witness to a 3 day ban and thread deletion over humiliating a janny in an argument on /v/

back in my day we compiled dossiers on the mods of our board such that we were able to geolocate them based on their moderation activity, correlated them against joins/leaves in IRC, and waited for a network failure that would interrupt vhost masking on their handle to get their hosting provider to confirm. Then the fun began

sounds about right. this might be slightly unorthodox (in todays overly online world) but definitely understandable as to why one might choose to do so.

i dont have much to add, i must say that the best way to avoid circlejerks is to mitigate the amount of attention you are willing to give to people online, the less invested you are in stupid shit, the further you are away from the blast radius of said stupid shit when it eventually implodes into fuckery.

i mean for example, though i have fond memories of 4chan (especially on /k/ and /tg/), i was never invested in it on a level which made me fall to my knees when the news dropped. i always viewed it as somewhere to shitpost and in my opinion anyone who used it in an unironic serious manner missed the point completely. yet i cant speak for everyone.

What is true is that he raised investor money from Asian companies to buy 4chan then proceeded to do absolutely nothing with it.
