A 16-year-old track athlete was killed during a championship meet Wednesday morning in Texas by a member of another team, officials said.

Frisco Police confirmed the student-athlete died "despite lifesaving measures." The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.

A student from Frisco Memorial was the victim, according to local reports. Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco wrote in an email obtained by Fox News Digital that Austin Metcalf, a junior at the school, had died Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium at the University Interscholasic League's District 11-5A championship meet. Anthony attends Frisco Centennial, roughly 7 miles away from Frisco Memorial.

According to the Frisco Independent School District, the meet was suspended shortly after the incident. The ISD added that the stadium "was immediately secured, and students were released and sent back to their home campus on FISD buses with expediency."

In her email, Fesco said the school "will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day," adding counselors would be available.

"As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates," Fesco wrote. "This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings."

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said in a statement. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

Metcalf, who also played football at the school, participated in both the boys shot put and discus events earlier in the day, with threw distances of 39 feet, 9¾ inches and 86 feet, 4 inches, respectively.

Anthony ran the boys' 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and was scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Eight schools competed at the meet, according to MileSplit.

Mississippi culture collapsed long before the Spanish arrived. WE don't know exactly when, but the primary culture, the "mound builders" had already collapsed long before De Soto came through, and likely precolumbus, so if anyone brough smallpox it the vikings. This case took place in Texas the most ass-backwards state (maybe moreso than California even) when it comes to self-defense, and I dont mean that in its heavily restricted, I mean that in the opposite direction. I watch one video of a guy who was supposed to hand kids off to his GF's ex, during an argument the guy went into his house, brought out a gun and shot the guy. In any other sane state thats murder but I cant remember if no charges were brought or it was actually legitimately ruled a case of self-defense but either way the guy wasnt charged with murder and never saw the inside of jail cell. Thats the state/people were dealing with in this case. FRISCO, Texas — A home connected to the family whose 17-year-old son, Austin Metcalf, was fatally stabbed at a Frisco track meet was swatted Thursday evening.

Frisco PD said that officers responded to a gunshot call at an address, which turned out to be the home of Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf's father, WFAA confirmed. Metcalf told WFAA nobody was home at the time, but he arrived five minutes later.

Swatting is a term used when fake threats are called into authorities with the expressed purpose of drumming up a large police response.

The news comes after Metcalf showed up to a press conference hosted by the parents of Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of stabbing Metcalf's son. The press conference was delayed by 50 minutes as a result, and police escorted Metcalf out of the building without incident.

At that press conference, Anthony's mother said her family has been the target of harassment, threats and lies.

Anthony was released from jail Monday after posting bond. Judge Angela Tucker earlier in the day decided to significantly reduce Anthony's bond amount from $1 million to $250,000.

This is how shock, guilt, and anger get transformed into radical capitulation: it’s just a bunch of inversions. Instead of protecting their child, they protect other people’s children. Instead of being furious at the actual killer, they rage at imaginary racists. Instead of focusing on their family’s pain, they empathize with the killer’s family and what his loved ones are going through.

Notice the way white fathers, who by rights should be taking revenge, socially self immolate for the failure of protecting their child. All of this has a strongly self-destructive and masochistic element. It’s a humiliation ritual they take part in to punish themselves, shockingly transgressive things (like Aiden Clark’s dad saying “I wish my son had been killed by a white man”) or going way overboard in seemingly psychopathic displays of indifference towards their murdered child.
