I think those were bots, the reason there were so many sign tapping threads on /pol/ was so they could train bots on sign tapping threads and let them autopilot the engagement there.
They didn't give a fuck about the signtapping one way or the other, just that anons cared enough about it to genuinely engage in the threads and 1.)waste their time and 2.)provide a screen of genuine activity disguising how stupid the bot behavior is when its just one anon in the thread fucking with the bots.
it was the same with Christianity threads, they were training bots on those to do the same repetitive engagement farming.
They were also farming data, so they knew what was trending (and would load the catalog to get even more engagement with trending topics) and they had psychographics too and were likely building profiles on individual anons, I think they did this with by connecting the metadata matches on picrel anons would use repetitively, and would tie user IDs together eventually having a kind of profile off of that.
