Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

What are people's opinions on Odd Taxi? For his first anime, that new director did an excellent job.

Speaking of shonen shit, two old heads are coming back to weekly shonen Sunday
Kazuhiro Fujita (Ushio & Tora, Karakuri Circus) will have a new series on May 7th called Silver Mountain
Kazuhiko Shimamoto (Blazing Transfer Student, Aoi honoo) will have one in May 14th called Vampidol Tagiru

Given the fact that Rumiko Takahashi and Gosho Aoyama are also still serialized there, Sunday is starting to look more like a geriatric home.

Said people are also talking about a new one called Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku which I have seen ranked pretty high on oricon and I know is getting an anime next season, so depending on how well its adapted might be one of the more popular series of said next season
It's a really good series. You know how in so many drama plots conflicts happen entirely because people don't talk to each other? In this one, people actually do talk to each other and work through their issues like intelligent human beings trying to live better lives. It doesn't resolve everything, but it means the characters feel like actual people rather than plot devices.

Mob is poorly conceived.

I do not view the world through the lens of Andrew Tate's and Matt Walsh's manosphere culture. Not everything is about status, prestige and power.

Earning things and authenticity has value. Friendships earned through virtue have value.

OPM and Mob are both cases of a premise that only lasts a season. OPM doesn't have anything more to go for besides Coom material. Meanwhile Mob has really good side characters that are more interesting and relatable.

OPM is a gag manga. It has a good moral and inspiring stories, but it knows what it is and doesn't try to go beyond that.

Maybe originally, but by the Garo arc it's 95% generic Japan super hero, and the remains 5% where Saitama actually appears and does his thing.

This anime was freaking underrated, I had no idea what I was even watching most of the time but I'm glad I did.
In the last 5 years, I personally enjoyed 86, Ousama Ranking, Shadows House and Frieren. I have Akiba Maid War downloaded, I should probably give it a try.

Obari got BL fans to watch their first mecha and mecha fans to watch their first BL while also being very funny. Cygames funded the first season of Akiba Maid War as well as Bravern so you know you're going to be in for some good shit.

Also watch Dungeon Meshi if you haven't because they did a fantastic job adapting that.

no way, OPM has plenty of characters to go to. The Garo arc was sick as fuck. There's still plenty of material in King and Genos
OPM does not even need to sidetrack Saitama so much. There are plenty of ways to write enemies who threaten him without undermining his power. Making a monster that controls minds or turns intangible cannot be harder than "Saitama is elsewhere doing this random thing now watch Genos job to the arc villain again"

It wore the gag thin until it become what it parodied. Saitama was the inverse of shonen protagonists in that he does not power up and get stronger because he is already the strongest. Having him power up and get stronger against Garou anyway was beyond stupid.

I dunno it's the "can an omnipotent god make a boulder so heavy he can not lift it" problem, Saitama is as strong as he needs to be at any given time, which is why he can one punch mooks without killing them.

I'm up to date on the manga and it's clear the two justifications for it's continued existence are fan service of the half dozen or so female characters and filler so that King can continue to land as a joke character.

Sounds like you're reading the manga version which started to go to shit in the Garo arc because Murata wanted to milk every aspect of it til the pacing was fucked and one-up everything that happened in the webcomic til it turned into unironic power wanking. Completely ruined the climax of the arc. The webcomic version never lost sight of what it's trying to be, and is great except for ONE only updating it like twice a year.

What a cool fucking panel. (Koroshiya no Oshi/The Hitman Stans)
I absolutely love manga where super badass guy is bringing his super badass energy to completely mundane or dumb stuff like supporting his favorite idol or the Way of the Househusband.

It was Muratas constant redrawing of previous chapters that made me drop it since iirc it wasn't just fixing a few art mistakes or panels but changing a few story beats here and there that made it a pain in the ass to follow as each new chapter dropped.
