The Elder Scrolls

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'm absolutely shocked that it looks fine and I'm actually considering buying it.
Ultimately I find Skyblivion more interesting because they're remaking a bunch of dungeons, improving the overworld and unfucking the level scaling which are two aspects that really needed help, plus it's got mod support and a better ui. On the other hand Skyblivion is stuck with Skyrim's hand-based spellcasting which is a downgrade from Oblivion.
Don't bother it's UE5 slop and runs like shit. I have a 4070 TI Super and I couldn't even get a steady 60fps at 1080p no matter what settings I used.
Yeah, at the end of the day if you made me choose which of the two games is overall more appealing to look at with zero work I would tentatively point to the remaster right now. That may change as I get further in, but the animation tweaks and better faces alone, as well as the punchier combat, are all big boosts in its favor.

This is a big issue too. I said fuck it and bought the PS5 version because no mod support anyway and there's frame dips, stutter, the usual.
It's a shame they used UE5 for the remaster. It runs like total garbage and it's UE5 so that will never change. Unless you got NASA level supercomputer hardware and can power through the UE5 poor optimization slop I wouldn't bother with it.

I just came to the horrifying realization that I might have been discussing the game with "people" who never played the original, weren't even alive when it came out, and haven't even held a physical form of any media in their hand, and despite that, will adamantly say the remaster doesn't do Oblivion justice. What a sad existence.

TES Cats apparently come in various shapes and sizes, I recall seeing a chart about that.
They can look different depending on the cycle of the moon they are born under.

There are some that look like domestic house cats but can speak and are "magically gifted" apparently.

It's less that and more the artstyle. I really really dislike this Avowed/Dragon Age Veilguard thing that every modern game is enamored with where everyone has these incredibly odd facial proportions that are excessively pinched and stretched, like an uncanny halfway point between realistic and stylized.

I really find it ugly and off putting.

Exploit-related questions:

  • Getting rich: are the 10 poisoned apples worth 300G each in Fort Farragut still there, and respawn every 3 days? If it's running the same engine under the hood there's no reason to expect this would've changed. Go out the back exit of Cheydinhal, up the hill toward the fort, go around to the left side of it and look for a hollow stump with a hatch inside. The barrel with the apples is to the left.

  • Leveling combat skills easily: can you still go to the shrine of Peryite and endlessly attack the frozen and invincible people there? In the OG, each attack counted as a minor unobserved crime, so after you did like 500 attacks it could lead to game instability, so every once in a while it's good to go punch a guard and pay the fine to clear out the queue.

  • Minmaxing: this would take a really long time to test but wanted to bring it up. In the original, there's a Shivering Isles quest called Addiction that can help you raise your attributes over 100 permanently. Basically there's a drug and its withdrawal effects are handled in a permanent way by the engine, so you can keep leveling the decreased attributes up to 100, then cure yourself of the addiction which removes the withdrawal and adds the points the game thinks are missing.

  • Getting out of bounds: do paintbrushes still float in the air wherever you leave them, with their own collision physics, allowing you to use them as stairs to get anywhere you want?

  • Duping items/getting rare items: does the Skull of Corruption glitch still work? Another one that will take a long time to test. Basically you put items on a corpse, use a rare spell effect to resurrect the dead guy, use the Skull of Corruption to make an evil clone of him, quickly kill the clone, then save and load and you can loot the clone's corpse. Actually, this is something else that's easy to test: if you never go to Weynon Priory, can you still go back through the sewers all the way to Uriel's body in the remaster? Progressing the main quest at all locks a door partway back to him, but as long as you don't do that, in the OG you can use this trick on the emperor to get his normally-unavailable robes to wear yourself.

I think the devs bought the memes way too much. There is no way the characters should look, act and move this weirdly.

Like if they'd just used the skyrim engine and added some polish it would look better than what we have now, I don't know what where they thinking, but it seems like the unreal experiment was a failure.

A disturbing amount of people in this thread don’t pirate games
they probably live in countries where if they try to pirate they will get a mail from their ISP telling how they can be buttfucked in 420 ways and they need to stop.

that's how unreal does, if you need to change it you need to waste time and time is money.

"She is also the chairwoman of the Society of Concerned Merchants"
TRANNY ALERT TRANNY ALERT TRANNY ALERT DEFCON 5
ARCHIVE THIS PAGE AND WAIT FOR THE CHANGE
But for real why not Chairhead or something that doesn't sound so gay if they have to degender it.
Chairperson is in the original. She's always been chairperson.

Isn't Skyblivion coming out in like a month? I don't really trust moddertroons especially since The Frontier clusterfuck but the screenshots they released look 10× better than this.

Why not wait for that and get it for free?
If this game really does have lootboxes, or they plan on adding some in the future -- and the rating they got in the UK means it's one or the other -- there's absolutely 0 fucking chance they let Skyblivion come out. They'll C&D that team and try and hire them to keep them silent.
