Why would someone who used to post on 4chan go to SA? It costs money to sign up and its user base is almost entirely trannies. Most of them will migrate here, sharty, and various Discord/Telegram groups.

They'd last less than a second before stepping on an invisible land mine and eating a ban from a Tranny Janny. I love the idea of the site getting swarmed and devoured by chan locusts but hate the idea of enriching Jeff and/or boosting the site's profile in any way but I guarantee the existing user base would either welcome them with open arms or scream for mods! so loudly they'd die of shock.

Ever since Lowtax passed away, the site has continued to operate solely because real people are working to keep it alive. They are maintaining his old subscription model, but everything else relies on their efforts. Users from 4Chan are going to face a rude awakening when they realize they can't post their loli content on Something Awful. (SA stands for Something Awful, not Sexual Assault—I really dislike how modern internet culture has turned SA into a slur.)

...although someone mentioned the prospect of "gamergate alternate history" in future political discourse and I looked at the camera.

I don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say this dude's old LPs were largely responsible for Drakengard and Nier's popularity in the West. I always assumed he just quietly vanished from the internet years ago after his 15 minutes of fame were up. It's bizarre and hilarious to learn he actually built an entire online identity around a backstory cribbed directly from Mr. and Mrs. Smith and furthermore, people actually believed it.

The video is kind of interesting even if overtly long, not particularly for the stories themselves but for understanding the setup of DarkId's little cult.

It's apparent that TheDarkId had a system, with SA/Twitter as a recruiting ground and the Discord as a ruling area. The guy speaking with slowbeef is clearly the desired target (on medication, living with his parents, self-professed "aromantic asexual", clear trust issues and nerd interests) and it's obvious that even with the retarded stories TDI cultivated carefully cliques and attack routes to manipulate people, selling himself as a "LGBT+ ally" while faking being a Japanese teenager spouting racist accusations against white women and sexual harassment charges against his own followers that he wanted humiliated. Imagine using years of lies and manipulations to get a bunch of nerds to worship you and your silly stories just for an ounce of power. Baffling.

It's a pity the guy wasn't big enough to get the interest of the Farms before his final meltdown, he even used the threat of "Nazi Kiwifarmers infiltrators" to gaslight people. Indeed one sick puppy.

I dunno if this is the right place to query but it seems like a good place to start: whatever happened to all the other early web sites that tried to ape SA and fell off? Like what happened to hate, or brawlhall, or livingwithstyle, or hateforum, or lolzing, or neohate, or jj/museum of tolerance and that group of fucktards?

The only old shitposting site I can think of that is still active is godlike productions, I'm scratching my graying head for any others.

I've dug around on wayback and most of it is just dead gone. Am I missing something or is anything pre web 2.0 just a dice roll like that? (been under a rock, plz no step).

And I finished it after a few days. I even managed to get the document some former TheDarkId Discord creep managed to write before TDI nuked the entirety of the server. Honestly, it paints a picture that's even more insane than the mere "pathological liar" thing he had going. This man was borderline Chris-Chan tier, only apparently functional and a predator instead of prey.

This man started to build his fake persona in 2004, writing guides on Gamefaq where he thanked his non-existent wife "Fiona", his theoretical girlfriend "Claire" and his best friend "Elly", all returning characters in his twenty years old internet facade. All names from video-games. The amount of schizo ramblings is insane (apparently Fiona was the grand-daughter of Himmler of all things!) but the details are beyond the point, this went on for decades of Internet life, even before his Something Awful threads. This must have consumed a significant amount of effort and time, without going on the fake Japanese adopted daughter/girlfriend.

Then, he hunted. Apparently he actively searched for people with issues (the guy talking with slowbeef is a complete basket case of psych drugs, therapy and self-diagnosed Internet sexual preferences) and played the role of Progressive War Dad with the support of his Japanese fake daughtergirlfriend. He wasn't even good at it, and I do not doubt that there was a good number of his acquaintances that didn't care for the larp, but he seemingly targeted and manipulated mentally-fragile nerds in some kind of Discord cult. Start doubting the Chief? You get branded as a Russian Nazi Kiwifarmer Molester and the other socially maladjusted nerds need to shun you. Probably standard Discord clique stuff, but at the service of a pathological liar that was pardoned everything because he was One Of the Good Ones. I'm amazed that there are people so desperate for recognition that they fall prey of some random schizo toying with them for years just because he's Defending The Right Causes and tells them every enemy is a hidden Nazi.

And this wasn't even for financial support (despite the still-active Patreon) it was simply to lord over the plebs. Did he believe some part of his insane ramblings? Did he need validation for his fake persona? Whoever this Ryan Kelly (apparently his real name) was, his psyche must have been fascinating to rummage around.

He wasn't even good at his lies, with most of his photos and videos clearly recycled. But no one with enough wits cared to check, and those that cared were emotionally dependent or scared by cult-thinking.

That's about the time I remember him because he took over some LPs of Resident Evil I think (specially got "big" doing RE4) and put a ton of effort in them. A lot of people thought they were funny but I always found them well-made but annoying in a mid-2000s lolsorandom internet humour way. That's why finding out the rest of his life was such an embellished lie filled disaster is so amusing to me. eFame: not even once.

Nothing especially interesting. Forums still gay but not quite dead. Monthly revenue keeps falling, but still plenty sufficient to sustain the site. There are about 17k active accounts (ones who have made at least one post in 2025).

There's a new admin, HopperUK: an autistic fifty-year-old British woman who is a Nintendo adult and patrols the Games forum for microaggressions.
