I've been saying for a while to my friends, the most likely nuclear war we see in our lives is India Vs Pakistan, because its one of the few nuclear wars that won't meaningfully end the world. Neither India nor Pakistan have enough nuclear weapons to legitimately glass each other, neither have enough weapons to completely fuck the environment, and neither matter so much in global commerce that everyone will drop everything to try and stop them.
MAD as an idea might die then and there because who will want to end the world for India and Pakistan? Furthermore the refugee crisis such devastation will cause is very concerning. Countries with large Indian and Pakistani diaspora populations might call on their host nations to intervene somehow.
All depends on if another country doesn't sperg out and use it as an excuse to launch theirs.
Atmospheric testing already gave us all that data. As long as the weapons are thermonuclear air bursts, the radioactive fallout is very low so recovery efforts can begin almost immediately.

And history is a long track of "it turns out the data didn't apply the same in real world situations". Its one thing to have numbers and floating ideas and simulations, its another for it to actually happen. Could turn out airburst systems aren't reliable enough to be as clean as they'd hoped, could turn out that airbursts slipping between skyscrapers creates more irradiated material than expected when the fireball catchs pajeet tower, could be some horrific disease outbreak when the ganges boils the worlds largest turd soup.
That'd require a nuclear power to care about India or Pakistan enough to decide to risk their own cities on the back of a nuclear war. I genuinely cannot think of anyone that retarded, not even the Norks. Any friendly aid on the nuclear front will be in the form of intel on targets and defenses for better use of their own nukes, at best.
